  • "Just the relaxing break we needed!"

The hut is in such a beautiful location, and inside it’s perfect. We have stayed in quite a few Shepard’s huts but this one was so spacious and has everything that you would need, beautifully designed. We also loved seeing the horses from the window. Super cosy! Tracey was so lovely and welcoming and made sure we had everything to make our break perfect. We will 100% be coming back and would highly recommend this place to everyone.

  • "The hut is cosy and has all the basics you need plus Wi-Fi if you want to stay connected!"

It’s bijou but perfectly formed - I agree with a previous review as to how the owner managed to fit everything in! The seating area outside is the perfect spot to relax with a book and a drink or simply to admire the view and do some wildlife spotting. There are many local footpaths to explore which means your car can have a break too! Haworth is only a short (ish) walk away as is the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and it’s worth exploring the paths around Penistone Hill and the route to Brontë Bridge and beyond. I would highly recommend a stay at Moor Skies especially if you want to leave the whirlwind of modern day life and take some ‘me’ time. I hope to come back again next year to recharge my batteries and explore the area further.

  • "On arrival everything the hut was perfectly charming."

Though small it had everything anyone would need. Tiny but mighty woodburner is available to provide heat, an impressive amount of food fits in the fridge/freezer. A double ring induction hob, a combination oven, microwave and grill is available to use with everything you would need in the crockery and silver wear dept. The cutest shallow butler sink. With household eco friendly clean and sundry items in the cupboard underneath. The tiny but fully functioning shower and w.c is a very clean and comfortable space. With hanging space for all the toiletries you may wish to store. The double bed is very comfortable with and excellent view across the horses in the paddocks and small fields full of wild flower, rabbits a hunting barn owl on most days at dusk and dawn. Milly the sheep is also in residence. Even though the hosts live at the on site at the farm house my pivacy was never intruded on. It was very peaceful and extreamly quiet. You have to bare in mind it is a working small holding. Which means you may occasionally hear farm sounds and experience farm smells but nothing that could ruin your stay. All in all couldnt fault this place in anyway. Marvellous walks. Excellent farm shop approx ½ a mile down Marsh lane. Beautiful produce very nice people at Marsh farm. The bay horse is very welcoming and nothing but a short stroll away down hill into Oxenhope. With a villiage chippy next door. Well worth a visit. Definitely 10/10. Definitely rebooking. P.s thank you for the welcome pack it was very nice touch and much appreciated.

A unique interior made for a really comfortable stay, with everything needed to make it so, fridge freezer, cooker, grill and microwave in one machine, a two ring hob, TV and WiFi with a fantastic bathroom and the tiniest logburner which produced an amazing amount of heat. The views from the hut were spectacular and you would never have known that the owners property was 200 yards away. The hostess was welcoming, a text message to check all was well a couple of hours after arrival was very welcome as was the tea, coffee, pint of milk and sweet treats! The location is perfect for visiting the Dale's with Haworth, the Bronte village and Hebden Bridge just a stones throw... Definitely looking to visit again!

The wood burning stove was especially welcome on the second night! Haworth was a lovely downhill walk away (approx a mile and a quarter) which meant we could walk there for a drink in the early evenings, the walk back was a bit steep but definitely manageable after a pint! • "Enna and I had a lovely time in my Home County of Yorkshire."

The Oxenhope people were very welcoming after my 19 year absence. I was so excited, as I have been in a decade almost recovery from a brain injury caused by an assault in 2013. So I was so excited about driving an EV ~ VW iD4 to Yorkshire... I could not wait to get in the driving seat again! Moorside Laithe Farm is a beautiful place to stay and The Shepherds Hut ~ Moorskies is situated under just that....the cloud formations & blue skies are stunning across the moorland and its even more vivid than I remember as a child. I was born in Bradford and it was just lovely to hear the farm animals, horses, migrating and local geese and see the Yorkshire I remember as a child. Tracey is a very kind lady and there were scrumptious cookies on arrival, tea & milk... which at the hour I arrived was most welcome! The Shepherds Hut is perfect and has everything you need after a long day walking / running etc. I felt very welcome as a single female on my own with Enna..who is a Wolfdog. She coped very well on her first holiday ever and was very well behaved in close proximity to the livestock etc... it was so relaxing and just what I needed after being away from Yorkshire for so long. Enn has Epilepsy, but thankfully did not have a seizure whilst we were away.. Being small it is very cosy and warm inside, even with the windows open and I loved the gentle sway of the hut... as it is raised off the ground on secured wheels it kind of rocked me to sleep gently at night. I wanted to light the woodstove, but would need temps to drop slightly to do so....as Enn and I like Winter... There were so many walks to do, with out necessitating driving any where..which was great for Enna and myself. Fish and Chips were a real treat for both of us ( X 3 days) and there are 3 local Fish and Chip shops! I would go back maybe in Winter next time...as I love snow and so does Enn! It feels right now that I know my origins, as an adopted child...it all came together finally... Thankyou for such a wonderful holiday Sykes Cottages, Tracey, Oxenhope & Yorkshire.

The hut is compact yet cosy. The kitchen facilties are a great addition and come equipped with plenty of cutlery, plates and pans. Bathroom is a little cramped, but was perfectly adequate. Slept great on each night and loved waking up to the horses each morning. The hut has some lovely views to sit out and look at, and the log burner added an extra cosy element. It's conveniently located with plenty of walks surrounding it which the dog throughly enjoyed. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • "The hut was lovely, just as described."

We really enjoyed our break. The location was great too. If I was going to be picky I'd have liked the nettles around the seating area to have been strimmed down. I'm all for wildlife and we do live in the country but it did put us off sitting outside. Also my partner found it a little awkward that there wasn't frosted glass on the bathroom so he felt he had to keep shutting the blind whenever he used the toilet as its facing the drive and house where the lady from the house stands with her dogs and the people passing to sort out their horses. All in all though its a lovely hut and I can imagine it's even better in the colder months when you can have the log burner going. I'd have loved that :) also our puppy loved seeing the horses, sheep and farm cats.

Very comfy and well equipped. Nice outside seating area and the chiminea provided warmth in the evenings. The owner left us alone but was on hand if required. Whilst not avid walkers we did walk into Haworth (approx 1 mile away) and spent some time walking around the local moors. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Would definitely book again.

Well equipped. Everything we needed was there. Beautiful setting. No Barbecue or chiminea, although these were listed in specification. Shower didn’t get hot just warmish. Tiny niggle - it would have been nice if bed linen were ironed.

  • "The location is perfect on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, scenic in itself and really near (10 mins walk, a minute in the car to the parking) a large country park (Penistone Hill), perfect for dogwalks."

Then ranging a bit wider, we went to Haworth Parsonage, to Ilkley Moor, to lovely waterfalls at Ingleton (a strenuous walk), to the Bronte Falls near the hut. The village had shops, pubs (one with good food) takeaway etc, as did everywhere else we visited. The Shepherds hut itself is small, cosy even in galeforce winds and rain, and fitted really well with all the facilities you could want. I could have cooked a full meal easily, but was happy to have a holiday from that too, so we mostly had a main meal out, then contented ourselves with snack-type meals. It was a delight to go back to the hut after our nice days out and settle down comfortably with a book and the wifi for our laptop. There's a TV too, but we seldom watch TV anyway. Skipton looks like a lovely town too, we wished we had time to fit that in too, but as the Covid19 virus was just becoming a problem (and we are both old) we decided to stick mostly to country walks rather than busy towns. Not that we've had any symptoms, nor any known contacts, but it was an easy place to stay safe too. The farm was a delight too, with horses, sheep and the families pets. If you want a rural retreat, with the option of nearby towns to visit, this is hard to beat. We loved it

Unless you're a very keen walker you really need a car - although there's a bus stop close to the entrance and we did see buses, but I can't say how frequent they were. Lovely basket of essentials like bread and milk on arrival - which was nice to have. Except for the first night when one of the neighbouring farms seemed to be having a party (with fireworks) it's a quiet spot with stunning views. And even when it rained (and it did!) you could still sit inside and see the countryside spread out below you.

About the location

OXENHOPE

Haworth 2 miles; Hebden Bridge 6 miles; Skipton 14 miles.

The small village of Oxenhope lies amid wonderful scenery, and offers the chance to take advantage of the multitude of walks in the area. The village, with its shops, churches and pubs, is home to the terminus for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, which runs on a regular basis to Haworth and on down to Keighley. The area was made famous by the Bronte sisters, and the outstanding countryside was famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights as wild, rugged and barren. The area abounds with popular places to visit; the cobbled streets of Haworth, the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the Museum of Rail. The market town of Skipton, known as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate and vibrant Leeds.
