The cottage could have been warmed prior to us arriving, though once the boiler fired up, there was adequate heat from the radiators. The kitchen electrical equipment was obviously new, kettle, toaster and microwave. The fridge freezer could have been larger, but it was adequate. It was a shame not to have an open fire or even a log burner in the lounge; this is an old property and doubtless has the chimneys to allow such. It would have provided a nice touch and a focal point to the room. Spacious bedrooms, dining room and a utility area gave a spacious feel to the house. Two toilets/showers. The upstairs family bathroom and downstairs shower room meant no queues. Washing machine and tumble dryer were also new and a great addition. The garden is large but not enclosed. In the Summertime, this would be a lovely spot to sit, entertain, BBQ etc, but children and pets would be at risk of wandering onto the busy road beyond the gate pillars, minus gates. The garden was well equipped, table, chairs and bbq. One drawback is the disposal of rubbish. The household waste is put into blue plastic bin bags and left outside of the rear French doors. Sadly, foxes got to it and rubbish was strewn all over the garden. It might be useful to have a large plastic garden storage box in which to securely keep waste to avoid the vermin. Very near the town centre, Tesco express 2 minutes' walk. Ideal for a base to explore the surrounding area. Reasonably priced. We would use again.

"The property was lovely and spacious but it requires a lot of maintenance, for instance the towel rail in the downstairs bathroom is very loose and the toilet roll holder."
The bedroom to the right upstairs carpet seemed to have purple nail varnish over the floor and skirting board, the bedroom to the left of the stairs had the smell of mould. The sheets were also a little stained. The bedroom opposite the stairs had large cobwebs and marks all over the walls, we assumed this property was likely a student house in a prior life?
The fire alarm went off because the extractor fan in the kitchen does not work so ended up having to open windows & doors in the utility area (the buttons on the fire alarms did not reset them).
The kitchen had a very poor selection of cooking implements, I.e the frying pan is very worse for wear and burning due to low quality despite turning the hob down to low and knives were very blunt, no sharpener.
The property could do with more glassware as we ended up buying plastic ones, and more cutlery.
Towels could also be slightly larger.
It would be a good idea to ensure properties had ample cleaning products, the property had 2 tea towels which were already dirty and a couple dish clothes, we had to buy hand soap for the bathrooms and loo roll was scarce. We also had very little surface disinfectant and no product to clean the floor with (apart from the actual mop and bucket).

"The owners, Becky and Lee were very easy to communicate with, super helpful with queries and flexible in their approach."
We were quite a large party of five adults and two children. The house is well decorated and equipped, and has everything you need, including big soft towels, big mugs for hot drinks, and lots of pans. The bedrooms are spacious. The garden is private at the back of the property – great for letting two small boys run around.
This is a great place to stay – the location is excellent. I couldn’t find many places close to Halifax town centre, so this was a real find – easily walkable on the level, at just about a mile. We had two children with us, so Manor Heath park in the other direction was another easy walk. We went to Eureka one afternoon – full of very hands on exploration activities, the very opposite of a museum where you can’t touch anything – kept our 8 year old enthralled all afternoon. And you can’t go to Halifax without visiting the amazing Piece Hall. And whilst you’re in town, don’t forget to look at the rest of the town’s architecture – just stand in any street and look up – incredible buildings including the Town Hall, designed by Charles Barry, who also designed the Palace of Westminster (the Houses of Parliament), and take a walk through the Borough Market and look up at the ceiling and the Clock in the middle, with Max Crossley’s fruit and veg stall beneath. And that’s before you’ve been to Shibden Hall (of Gentleman Jack fame) Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, and Howarth.
We had two cars with us and the owners gave us parking permits so parking wasn’t an issue – the street only gets parked up when there’s a football match at the Shay!
Tesco at the bottom of the street is a god-send.

"When i arrived i loved the building absolutely beautiful the place was a little unkept Greece on the cooker food on the set pads nothing major but unfortunately there is no outside bin as noted they are a business and have to pay privately for waste disposal so they didn't have any bin it was bin bag piles outside the property."
On the 1st night and 3 separate nights we and my children had rats running right up to the patio doors i was actually terrified to go outside at night! after i arrived home i was sent a vey large bill for items i hadn't even used but apparently broken so be careful.Such a shame beautiful building

"A lovely stay at a very well-equipped holiday cottage."
Very spacious, comfortable and any issues about the parking were quickly dispelled - it is not a problem at all. Only needed to call the owner once and the problem was immediately solved. Halifax and the surrounding area is probably nicer than we thought, although the weather was brilliant for the end of March. Hebden Bridge was a delight, as was the nearby park. Ate out most of the time but Cafe Passion was the only one that we used from the book - but it was excellent! The guide book for the visitors was very helpful - lots of useful tips.
It is clearly stated that the garden and the courtyard are "works in progress" - once these are completed it will superb.
All in all a very nice weekend.

"Lovely spacious cottage."
All very comfortable. An excellent base for the many walks in the Calder valley.
Would have liked a dishwasher. Also the listing should state garden not enclosed. If you accept dogs I would expect this. It was a little frustrating to have to keep our dog on a lead when outside.

"We really enjoyed our stay at Lister Cottage."
Becky was very nice and did all that she could to ensure that we were comfortable. She addressed any concerns raised swiftly and we felt well supported whilst at the property. The house is lovely and the garden is beautiful. We had many happy times there as a family. It is close to amenities and there are a couple of nice family friendly parks close by. I would certainly recommend this property to others.

"Lister cottage more than lived up to our expectations."
It was spotlessly clean and very spacious. The cottage is in a nice area and parking was no problem. We visited some lovely towns and went on some fantastic walks with the dog. We never drove for more than 45 minutes. Piece Hall in Halifax is truly a wonderful place to visit. It shows what can be achieved when imagination and pride are allowed to triumph over rampant commercialism.
The Three Pigeons pub nearby was dog friendly with very friendly regulars and great staff. Hebden Bridge is a must visit and is only a short drive or 15 minute train ride away.

"The house itself is nice - clean and spacious."
The internet is fast and reliable. The website says there is off street parking. There isn't. Parking is 200m away on the side of a main road which was disappointing.
We are sorry about the error in the listing; we don’t know how this occurred, as the house was inspected by Sykes before they wrote it, but I’m afraid we didn’t notice the error until it was pointed out by the previous guest. It has since been corrected. For clarification, there is parking on the road immediately outside the cottage, where there are always spaces available. This is limited to four hours at a time during the day, but is unlimited after 6.30pm and on Sundays. The nearest completely unrestricted parking is indeed about 200m away, but we would disagree that it is a main road. Free School Lane is a local residential road, which is quite wide and safe, and relatively quiet, especially in the evenings.
We have been in contact with the council about obtaining a parking permit for the cottage, to allow parking immediately outside without any restrictions. They have agreed to issue one, and we are currently waiting for it to be processed.

"We can't thank the owner enough who made Lister House available and ready for us at short notice one Friday evening."
We are grateful that everything was perfect for our stay. Beautifully clean and recently modernised.
The owner was very responsive and provided a few things that we requested (a tea pot and coffee pot) and kindly cut the grass so we could sit in the lovely back garden / meadow.
I can throughly recommend staying here.
