  • "The site is a bit odd on arrival but is in fact fine."

The accommodation is great quality and the area is excellent for walking and cycling

  • "We had an excellent stay in Lavender Lodge."

The owners provided detailed information in advance, including directions that made us confident of finding the cottage even though it's at the secluded far end of an estate. The lodge was scrupulously clean and very comfortable, with the kind touch of a cream tea welcoming pack.

  • "The lodge itself is lovely - clean, well stocked, modern fixtures and fittings, light and airy."

However, the park in which it is located was run down, overgrown and a little and depressing. The other lodges are generally not very well maintained. Gardens overgrown. The old manor house next to Lavender lodge is derelict. The tennis court adjacent to the lodge is completely overgrown. As far as we could tell there is no street lighting on the park. The roads around the park are also full of deep potholes. So while the lodge itself was great, the park was very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and for your complimentary comments about our lodge. We maintain and equip Lavender Lodge to a standard that meets our own expectations and also because we like our guests to be comfortable. We also maintain the area around the Lodge which helps to provide the pleasant and quiet environment in which the Lodge sits. Unfortunately, the recent fire that destroyed the hall appears to have caused some disruption and we are assuming this will result in some redevelopment. In the meantime the status of the park has been reflected in the rental price of the property. Based on the positive comments in the visitor’s book and other feedback, guests appear to have had a very pleasant stay. Property Owner

Peaceful location and ideal for exploring the area.

Thanks for your positive feedback its nice to hear that our guests appreciate our efforts to make lodge comfortable and easy to live in. We work hard to ensure that the property is as we would expect it to be if we rented it. Property Owner

  • "A lovely base to explore the local area, well equipped and clean, highly recommended"

Its good to hear that you found the lodge to be well located and equipped. We agree that its a real good base from which to explore the local attractions, beaches and moors. Its also a really good place from which to base a cycling holiday, especially since we added a high secure fence around the back garden so that bikes and other things can be kept securely outside. • "Great little lodge is situated within the Lenham Country Club - not exactly what one conjures up thinking "Country Club" as there are no facilities and one very sad tennis court."

Good location for exploring the local area and can't fault the house. Very comfortable and well equipped. Main bedroom has a small double bed which is a challenge if you are used to sleeping in a superking! The parking could be improved as one has to reverse down from the top of the hill - not for the faint hearted! Tricky if the neighbour opposite has both cars at home. Would probably mean losing some of the lawn but given that one doesn't sit out at the front maybe not a bad thing?

  • "Daily parking was a nightmare."

There are metal pillars inserted in the front garden which make parking a daily chore!!

Thanks for your comments about the parking. We have recently rebuilt the parking bay and made it much easier to park. There are also other parking areas close by that can use if necessary. Property Owner

  • "Accommodation is great but directions on reaching the property once you arrive at the site could be clearer - consider a small map."

Also parking is ridiculously difficult due to neighbours parking nearby, consider removing one of the fence posts to give wider turning circle onto the parking area

Thanks for your comments about directions. We have added additional information to the information book that we email to our guests before they travel so hopefully this will make the Lodge easier to find. We have also redeveloped the carparking space. However, there is also alternative carparking close by. Property Owner

  • "Lavender Lodge was extremely clean and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay."

The welcome pack was lovely and the house keeper was very helpful. The location was a bit strange but it was very peaceful and the residents were friendly. It was further to walk to the local shops than expected. The parking space is not really suitable for a large car, or a low down sports car, however there was plenty of parking space not far away on the site. Good location for visiting North Devon.

We and our housekeeper appreciate the positive feedback, thanks. Since your stay we have redeveloped the car park space and it has been tested with a Mazda MX5, Jeep Cherokee and a BMW 428 with positive results. Hopefully future guests should have no difficulty parking a range a vehicles. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was extremely clean and well stocked with all the conveniences you would need - the welcome pack is a lovely touch, including fresh cut flowers."

It's very local and a great base to travel from. The host was lovely and checked up once before and once during to make sure all was well. The internal roads to the cottage are slightly confusing, so that might me worth addressing, but once figured out all was good. Will definitely be coming back.

Thanks for your positive feedback - inspiring and makes it all worthwhile! Property Owner

Extremely well appointed in modern style & sea colours. Excellent base to walk into Bideford with it’s many quirky shops and cafes, or to take bikes as we did onto the attractive traffic free Tarka trail. Easy drive to Historic Appledore, Westward Ho, and Barnstaple.

Nice and quiet. Getting the car out from the drive is a bit awkward though. No plate drained on the side so bought one to use. Told them they could have it free, but they declined and asked us to take it home. Enjoyable holiday none the less.
