Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, which contains 18th Century paintings and sculptures, including landscapes by Turner and Ruskin, or explore Levens Hall, an Elizabethan mansion built around a 13th Century tower, whose world famous Topiary gardens were laid out in 1694 and remain mostly unchanged to this day. Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life are also interesting destinations for a visit, while Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With Lake Windermere and the rest of the National Park attractions in easy reach, Kendal is a superb base for a relaxing break.
