  • "We have stayed at Greystead many times and it has always been a wonderful time."

The comfort, warmth and surroundings instantly make you relax. The rooms are large and comfortable for two or six people and dogs. The weather was very kind to us and look forward to return soon.

Access to excellent local butcher in Bellingham and a great fish supplier in Hexam, makes cooking a pleasure. Unfortunately the weather was awful again, but we were happy to be tucked up at the Coach House and the sun arrived as we headed home. Would recommend

  • "The Old Coach House is a beautiful and much loved holiday home."

In fact, it’s a home from home! Stunning views with an abundance of wildlife. Every room was furnished to a very high standard and with wonderful antique furniture. Plenty of wood to make a fire which added to the ambiance of the house. Amazingly comfortable beds, pillows and duvet’s which ensured a good night’s sleep. So important after a long day walking along Hadrians Wall. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that you needed. All spotless and clean. Plenty of room for your own things and the bonus of an awesome utility room. The hosts, Anne and Bill were lovely and the welcome food package was a real treat. Anne was always there if you needed anything and gave lots of advice on things to do and places to visit. The Pheasant Inn at Stannesburn (5 minutes up the road) is a must for a fabulous meal. We couldn’t fault anything here and highly recommend The Old Coach House for a great family holiday.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the Coach House it was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished."

It was obvious that much thought had gone into the creation of this lovely place to stay. It exudes elegance and comfort. There was a lovely welcome pack, which really helpfully had essentials of milk, tea, coffee and wine ! The large garden was wonderful for relaxing and perfect for our dog to race around! It is close to a road which can be busy at times but the delights of the property far outweighed this. Being a Dark Sky area meant we had some fabulous star gazing and appreciated the sounds of owls and night animals. While you do need to walk on the road to join a footpath, the road has good visibility and mostly wide verges. You can also access the river directly onto a private stretch through the wood opposite and down the bank. The host’s welcome was second to none. It feels like Anne takes pleasure in your enjoyment of the Coach House and any issue however minor was sorted immediately. We loved our stay, would definitely stay again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.

The garden is private and secure with ample space for the family and with the dog to play in. Easy access to the Northumberland countryside, with Kielder and Bellingham in close proximity. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, with functional bathroom upstairs. Downstairs is comfy and roomy, with a wide variety of DVD's and Books, modern TV and access to a phone. The wet room off the kitchen doubles as a wash room, which is really handy. A lovely place to stay, welcoming by the hosts who cant help enough. Very secure and safe for the family and dog. Thanks

  • "The Coach House is a charming property in a beautiful location."

The owner Anne is very warm and welcoming and the cottage was immaculately clean and very well appointed. The garden is a real selling point, very large, private and secure and our dogs really enjoyed the space. Points to note: We were looking forward to enjoying some scenic dog walks but the nearest walk required a short walk down the B road outside the property. This road was not busy but quite fast with no footpath or verge to safely walk the whole distance. As a result we felt we had to put the dogs in the car to take them for a walk. The WiFi at the property was poor (6MB at best). This wasn't a huge problem but did cause some inconvenience on occasion - especially given that there was also no mobile phone reception - we therefore decided to come home slightly earlier than planned for an important meeting to be sure of consistent connectivity The hosts were delightful but we felt a little overlooked - they could clearly see our comings and goings as they live next door - and also on occasion accessed our parking area to use the bins On the whole, a very enjoyable stay in a beautiful location and while we recognise that the minor issues we outline will not be a problem for the majority of people, it may be useful information for some when deciding on that perfect holiday location.

Thank you for your feedback Nicky, and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. To respond to the points you mention, I am looking immediately into the Wifi situation. No-one else has mentioned this as a problem, and my own internet works very well next door, including for meetings, so I'm a little surprised, but of course nternet is never as good in the countryside as in a city. We're so sorry you felt overlooked. As many of our visitors have kindly mentioned in their feedback, although we live next door we always try to be very discreet, and leave our visitors to enjoy their stay, so I can assure you that if you saw us at a window we were simply washing up! You will have noticed that both our bins and the Coach House bins are in the Coach House drive, so we do need to access the drive for that reason, but following your comments I will be asking Northumberland County Council if they can change the location of our bin collections to the other side of our house. The road situation is of course beyond my control, although it is only a few hundred yards to the nearest footpath, and I would add that this is a National Park, and therefore formal verges are not appropriate in an area where the community is proudly trying to re-wild verges. Thak you again for yor comments, Anne Property Owner

Our only advice we wold like to give is that the bedrooms need washing facilities there is also room for two en-suite in the super large bedrooms. We all said that we would have paid more for these extras

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you did not find the existing bathroom and shower room enough for your needs, and would have preferred en suite facilities. You may be intereted to know that we have considered installing en suites in both the bedrooms you mention, but, after extensive consideration, we have concluded that this would spoil the character of the Coach House, which so many of our visitors love, and is the main reason for their visit. These are always difficult decisions in historic properties (ours dates back to 1817), but our marketing does show clearly that the bedrooms are not en suite, which we hope provides our visitors with the information they need in advance of their visit. What a welcome to find a superb Lemon Drizzle Cake together with a bottle of wine for our Evening Meal. It was nice to see furniture of the same period as the property. So many properties are renovated & furnished to the Classic Modern Style losing the original character. Everything was spotless and the dark furniture fairly shone. All the rooms were a good size especially the Double Bedrooms. The wardrobe in the Kingsize Bedroom was amazing together with the sideboard in the Dining Room. The weather could have been better but their was plenty of books to read or games to play. The garden was huge and a bonus if you bring a dog or children to be able to play safely. Not enough time to explore will have to come back. We have enjoyed star gazing and had appreciated the kit available in the cottage so we did not have to share. Which was great, had a great time with a binoculars each. Great gardens and tennis court on site and only short drive to Kielder for more fun cycling, wildlife and good food. Would recommend to order groceries delivery but Billingham has a good coop and service station has also good selection including gluten free and vegetarian. Had a great time and first BBQ of the year. We also had Family came to spend the day with us at the property with no issues. Everyone was very friendly. The other holiday cottage on site is quite a distance so no disturbance, but close enough for kids to play ball with neighbours in shared garden. We also explored the county and great places to visit within 30min -1hr for day trips (Hadrian's wall, Cragside, Alnwick). Will definitely keep this in my favourites to come back.

The Coach House, Bellingham is as shown in the pictures, and large enough to not be on top of each other. Cottage was spotlessly clean, very warm and also had a wood burner in the front room. Loved all the old furniture and especially the master bed! Have never slept so comfortably. From the kitchen to the utility there is nothing you could want for as everything is provided. Now the grounds, and the walled garden excellent for walking off lead your dogs, my grandson whos football mad absolutely loved the large lawned area with goal post, this was well used, when a bit wet and muddy they took themselves off to the enclosed tennis court. Only downside was the weather! within one 24 hrs had rain, snow, sleet and blue skies warm enough to take your coat off, this amused my grandson how changeable the weather was. This is not the owners fault. Ann couldnt of been more helpful. The cottage is in a lovely area and would definately visit again. The garden being fully enclosed with stone wall was superb with wonderful views of the fells, we saw stunning and varied skies with georgeous dawn and sunsets. Our hosts were lovely and very welcoming and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble and we were encouraged to pick fruit from the many fruit trees in the garden which made bountiful fruit pies Kielder Park is a wonderful place to visit to get the best fresh air, the lake looked stunning, the forest walks suitable for buggies and wheelchairs and the Visitor Centre offered a comfortable place to sit whilst enjoying freshly baked cakes with a pot of tea or coffee overlooking the lake. We were able to pick up some gifts in the shop next door which provided a lovely selection of wares and was a little shoppers paradise. The local village of Bellingham was ideal for picking up any groceries, everyone was very friendly and for a bit of extra banter, a must is a visit to the butchers. A visit to nearby Otterburn Mills is also worth a visit because the scenery as you drive across the top of the fells is simply breathtaking and on a clear day you can see for miles and miles. The Mills has some historical machinery that is cleverly incorporated inside shop and tea room for easy viewing, a must to try are the cheese scones and sausage rolls, delicious.
