COMPTON DUNDON NEAR GLASTONBURY

Street 3 miles; Wells 7 miles; Glastonbury 6 miles.

A sleepy village nestling at the head of the dreamy Somerset levels. Lush green meadows, meandering rivers, abundant wildlife all surrounded by steep and wooded hills; the countryside doesn't come much better than this! Just 7 miles away, Glastonbury Abbey and Tor is famous for its pre-history, Ley lines and music festival. The majestic Wells Cathedral is also well worth a visit, and shopaholics are excellently catered for in Street. Further afield, the Regency City of Bath, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge are all an easy drive away. Overall, an outstandingly beautiful and easily accessible area with much to do and see.

The Property: 2 Chapel Barn

A breathtaking semi-detached property, skilfully converted from a Grade II Listed building, thought to have been used as a 13th Century chapel, on the edge of the sleepy village of Compton Dundon. The property is full of exposed beams, beautiful stonework and an abundance of green oak woodwork. Stylishly furnished and equipped with several pieces of antique furniture, including the antique iron bedstead in the double bedroom, this spacious cottage makes a lovely holiday home. Set on the owner's working livestock farm amid beautiful rolling countryside, the 18th Century memorial to Admiral Hood looks down on the property from the hillside above. The village (and pub) are just ten minutes walk away down the hill!

The barn conversion was beautifully done and provided an extremely spacious, comfortable environment from which to see the local attractions. The farmer was really friendly and even took us on a guided tour of the farm in his Landrover! The information provided about the local area was extensive. We would definitely recommend the barn to our friends/family and hope to return there again soon as the location was great for exploring Somerset and there is so much to do there.

Very good property with good landlords. I have stayed in many of these and can safely say that this was amongst the best.

Booked for Christmas, and the owners went to great lengths to decorate the place. They were friendly and helpful. It was warm and cosy and there was everything, and more, that was needed to cook a full Christmas dinner. Generally it is decorated in keeping with the style of house, with a large modern kitchen.
