BASLOW

Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.

The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

The Property: Toms Cottage

An 18th Century, stone built terraced cottage, situated in the centre of the delightful village of Baslow, just 500 yards from the Chatsworth House estate. Recently completely renovated, the cottage retains much original character and charm including beamed ceilings, original fireplaces and attractive Georgian windows. The accommodation, set over three floors, is decorated in a bright and cheerful style, and to the rear is a shrubbery garden and rockery with a large patio, ideal for summer BBQ's. All this coupled with its central position in the very heart of the Peak District National Park, and close proximity to Bakewell and Chatsworth House, makes Tom's Cottage the perfect holiday base.

Ideally located for exploring Peak District. Great to have milk and bread left on our arrival.Very relaxing break in a beautiful cottage!

The location of the cottage, and the easy access to the walking areas for the dogs and ourselves. The cottage itself was everything we could have wished for, a home from home, but in a much prettier area with very friendly people around. Fresh bread and milk is a lovely touch when we had been travelling for 5 hours.

Superb cosy cottage - open fire was particularly good. The owners left us some bread, milk, coal and wood to get us started and were very helpful with local information. The cottage has 3 good sized bedrooms. Fantastic location in a lovely village. Great local walks. We had a brilliant Christmas here and would highly recommend it!
