RUDYARD

Leek 3 miles; Asbourne 17 miles; Bakewell 24 miles.

The village of Rudyard enjoys a delightful countryside location. A certain Lockwood Kipling and his fiancee Alice Macdonald met on the shores of the lake and named their first-born son after the place. Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936), poet, novelist and short story writer has made this Staffordshire village world famous. The lake, a beauty spot and one of the most romantic places in Britain, is a family centre for picnics, boating, walking and fishing as well as the steam railway. Nearby Leek is a thriving town with good pubs and restaurants and many antique shops. Nearby the beautiful Manifold Valley cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists with the "Manifold Trail".

Absolutely 1st class in every respect. A lovely cottage in a very friendly village. We went to a Songs of Praise Sunday service at the local Methodist church a few minutes walk away - lovely, with a brass band playing! Fantastic scenery on your doorstep.

The cottage was just as shown by your brochure - which was true and wonderful. Bathrooms were great. Bedrooms were great. Everything was there. If this is the standard one can now expect for self-catering, then I shall be looking again at your cottages.

It was great to have en-suites in the two main bedrooms. There was plenty of space and was ideal for a party of our size.
