Very nice and quiet place, loved the fire, only problem we had was that the fridge was under the stairs so it was hard trying not to hit your head every time you went to the fridge

  • "We had a lovely two week stay in Cragg Cottage."

It was in an ideal location, and reasonably priced too, for exploring the southern lakes and surrounding areas. The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed in it for our stay, including WiFi, washing machine and dryer, a good shower and well equipped kitchen. We didn't experience any of the problems encountered by previous occupants - although the pillows were hard (again personal choice) and 13.5 tog duvets in the middle of the summer are always a challenge, but this seems to be the norm wherever we stay in the summer...

Thank you for your feed back. We appreciate your positive comments Property Owner

  • "The kitchen is really nice and the back door."

But there’s an old musty green carpet, my partner had to hoover to try and take away the smell. The curtains and pillows are really old. The toilet doesn’t flush properly. There’s cobwebs up the wall and damp in the main bedroom. We had to book another accommodation after the first night.

We always take feedback seriously and we've spent the week working out how this could have happened, and rectifying faults. We're sorry the place wasn't up to standard. If you had contacted us or Sykes at any time during the week you booked we would have been able to put things right. We have done a deep clean, a plumber has looked at the toilet and there are no traces of damp. We complied with all your additional requests. Property Owner

The bed pillows were a little hard for us but that’s our choice for soft pillows. I would recommend this cottage for anyone and the owners even contacted us prior to our stay to fill us in with the cottage and local area amenities. Great stay 100% for the scenery and Lindale.

I'm glad you had a good stay. Thanks for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage, very comfortable."

Only a couple of minor faults; We had the feeling we were being watched when people walked passed the back door so we had the blinds closed all the time. No wood starter kit for the wood burner and the instructions require reviewing. All in all a nice place.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad the cottage worked for you and you had a good holiday. The neighbours are very friendly! I'm sorry about about the starter kit for the fire. We'll ensure this is done next time. Property Owner

Would certainly recommend and stay again. Excellent value for money, the washing machine was bonus! Great character and features in the cottage, only quibble would be the pillows and sofas, as pillows were extremely hard and the sofas aren’t very comfy but you can’t please everyone and as an overall view, them points a side we had a fantastic stay. Thank you very much

I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday. We have a new sofa and pillows to put in the cottage. Property Owner

Other than that the beds were comfy, the kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. The Wi-Fi was excellent throughout the property too. Overall a perfect location for exploring both sides of Windermere.

  • "The cooker oven did not work, microwave bearly worked."

The shower was dirty and the mattress on the double bed was stained very badly. Dead insects and dirty cupboards and draws. It would appear Sykes Cottages do not read or reply to emails as I sent photos and an email yesterday before leaving the cottage. I will not recommend you or the cottage again.

Thank you for your feedback. The property has been updated with a new kitchen and the mattress has been replaced. We do have a very good cleaner but will ensure the cleaning regime is reviewed. Had you contacted us during your stay, we would have been happy to help with any issues. We have not received any emails from you at Sykes so will send one that you can reply to. We are sorry you were not happy with the property but hope you enjoyed your holiday otherwise. Property Owner

Even before we arrived we were made feeling very welcome. The location is perfect if you want to venture out into the Lake District. Shops are also nearby. Having a parking slot just outside the Cottage is beneficial. And we had very fast internet as well. The only thing that I would change is having thicker curtains in the main bedroom. All in all - fantastic stay and many memories made.

Lindale is a lovely village with a great local pub. We really enjoyed our stay and the cottage had everything we needed for a week away - good WiFi, lots of local walk recommendations, and a comfortable place to relax after a long day's sightseeing. We had some trouble getting the oven to work, but seeing as we mostly ate out this wasn't too much of a problem. The owners of the cottage were very helpful and were reachable via phone and email throughout our stay.

The cleaner needs to do a better job, I had to clean the fridge before use as it smells bad, also the sofas are so uncomfy , if they were comfy it would have been better next to fire, Apart from the fridge and sofas , the cottage was lovely, neighbours lovely and we really loved the stay, we will defo be back at some point

About the location

LINDALE

Grange-over-Sands 2 miles; Cartmel 3.6 miles; Windermere 12 miles.

Lindale, a small village situated in the south of The Lake District National Park, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and just a few miles from Lake Windermere, makes the area a perfect holiday destination. Set amidst the charm of The Southern Lakes, this attractive village, with handy gastropub, The Royal Oak, makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area. Just a few minutes drive brings you to Cartmel, a delightful village to wander around, famed for its delicious sticky toffee pudding, 12th century priory, National Hunt race meetings and gourmet restaurants. You could also visit Grange-over-Sands, a charming seaside Edwardian town. Take a stroll on the promenade and return through the quaint narrow streets with some lovely tea rooms and specialist shops including a bakery, chocolatiers, and award winning butchers. The Lake District has so much to offer, there is sailing on Windermere, cycling in The Grizedale Forest, Go Ape Treetop adventures, Birdwatching at Leighton Moss and The Foulshaw Osprey Experience. There are also stately homes at Holker Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle and a heritage steam railway which runs from Haverthwaite to Lakeside. The Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Beauty is also a short journey away. But leaving the best till last, walking or touring in the fabulous Lake District, with its fells, lakes and tarns is an absolute must, most of which is just a short drive or walk away.
