FOURSTONES NEAR BENTHAM

Settle 12 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 12 miles.

Fourstones sits on the edge of Burnmoor, high above the traditional Yorkshire market town of Bentham, with the Great Stone of Fourstones standing on the boundary where Lancashire meets Yorkshire. This large boulder is a relic of the Ice Age and has become a distinctive feature of the landscape, which also includes spectacular views over the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. To the north lies the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the famous Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent, while the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches away to the south and offers unspoilt landscapes and a range of visitor facilities. The area boasts limestone pavements, scars, caves and open moors and wonderful cycle tracks and walks. Nearby Bentham has a range of pubs and restaurants serving fine beers and good food, as well as a variety of shops and a post office. This peaceful area is nicely off the beaten track, yet the market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal are all within easy driving distance.

We had a lovely holiday and would definitely go back to Lower Croasdale for another. It was perfect for a restful, quiet holiday and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends.

The house was in such a good location, very modern but the features of the farmhouse have been saved. It was so warm the beds were very comfortable, pleanty of room.

The isolated location. The stream. The peace and quiet. Views. Excellent overall standard. The farm animals out of the window. The log fire. Freedom to roam on the moors

The property is spacious yet cosy. The cooking facilities and dining area were excellent. The property is on a working farm, with animals in close proximity. A pleasure for children and adults. The isolated area of the property is very relaxing. We hope to return in Spring or Autumn.

The size of the cottage. Although there were only two of us this time it could have easily and comfortably accommodated eight people. It's isolation was wonderful.

Strangely the long driveway to the property and it's remoteness
Mr Roberts, Hereford, Herefordshire
Jul 2008
Wonderfully remote. Didn't mind the long drive from the 'main' road at all, as many former users seemed to. On the first night's drive to the house we saw horses, cows, sheep, rabbits and a hedgehog. Which was very exciting for city folk. The power showers were really powerful and have prompted thoughts of an upgrade at home.
