  • "We had a lovely stay in a wonderful location."

The parking is tight for larger vehicles but car park is only around the corner. Chapel was lovely and suited our needs well , beautiful village.Thank you . The only downside was the standard of cleanliness and did feel a little damp inside on arrival.

  • "Gorgeous chapel with ample room for a range of ages 5yr to 71yrs."

I stayed in 2019 and can say it continues to exceed expectations. Lots of resources, games/books/ Bly ray to keep everyone occupied. Fantastic kitchen equipped with everything one needs to make family meals even down to including washing up liquid for the pots! Will definitely be rebooking for 2023.

  • "Lovely property in a great location."

The only drawbacks are that there are no windows/views as it’s all stainglass windows. In addition, no garden or outside space so no barbeques or letting out pets without full supervision.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. The chapel dates from 1873. Some of the windows are the original stained glass. Those that have been replaced have been done so to meet planning permission. This is listed in the property description, as is the fact there is no garden. Property Owner

  • "The converted chapel was exactly as shown on the website."

Lovely, with plenty of toilets and showers. However, the parking area was not big enough for our car and we had to park in a public (free) carpark. Not a huge deal but a bit of a pain when the weather is wet - which it was. The village is lovely and the local pub is dog friendly and does good food. On the whole we enjoyed our holiday.

  • "Nothing wrong with the accommodation , the beach is hard to access due to large boulders so probably needs a mention."

Fairbourne the next village has the same problem but can’t have everything. The railway service is great and inexpensive and you can even get to Birmingham from the village. Enjoyed the area with beautiful scenery, unrivalled anywhere.

  • "Great holiday home."

Well kitted out and great showers. The travel cot needs a cot mattress (we've let the owner know). Shame the third double bed room has been turned into bunk beds but glad this was explained to us beforehand.

  • "The Chapel was very nice but there is no way of cooling it in the heat and some fans would be handy when the weather is hot."

Also there was not hoover provided which meant we could not clean the carpet.

Thank you for your feedback. So glad you liked the Chapel. Sorry you found the property rather hot. It is possible to open all the roof lights. In addition, there is a portable dehumidifier in the utility area, which can blow cold air, as can the fan heaters in the living area. There are 2 vacuum cleaners at the property. These are normally kept in the tall cupboard at the bottom of the stairs. They are usually available for guests to use, if required. Having investigated, it appears that the cleaner placed the equipment in the locked storage area. I am sorry for this. There is no expectation for guests to hoover. Your gesture to do so is appreciated. The contact details for any issues are clearly displayed in the property, as well as sent in the introductory email. However, the heat and vacuum issues were not advised during the stay. This is a shame, as they could have been resolved, had they been reported and we are always on hand to help Customers with any issues they may have. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week in the chapel, only four of us in the end so we had heaps of room!"

What a wonderful space the open plan upstairs room is and we loved the pulpit, the hymn numbers and the re-purposing of the pews into a kitchen island - quite unique. Debbie and Alex could not have been more helpful with the info they let us have ahead of our trip. I had a phone call to let us know about the change in bedroom arrangements but the website does need its photos updating too. Great to have useful tips on which pubs are open at present! We had a great value, straightforward pub meal at the Garth one evening and a couple of pints on other days sitting in their car park which is currently an outdoor seating area -in blazing sunshine (VERY lucky!) and they were very welcoming of our pooches too. Then had a super duper meal at George III on our last evening - beautiful setting. Missed out on a planned walk up Cader Idris when the weather changed but we had a couple of gorgeous shorter walks up including over the top to Fairbourne, a peek at the Blue Lake, a swim and then the lovely train back to Llywngwril. The train service is amazing and just a few minutes walk from the front door. Highlight of the trip for me was the big zip wire that I've been waiting a year for - what a buzz!! This is a well provisioned house for a big group and super convenient for the shop for essential groceries, the station, the beach and the hills - brilliant.

We were glad that we'd carefully read the description and the upstairs rooms worked well for our group. Fabulous powerful showers and plenty of space for our group - thank you.

  • "There are some great things about this property: the living space upstairs is fantastic and there are lots of thoughtful things like games, books, dvds and maps for walking in the local area."

The kitchen is well equipped and the showers were powerful. The billiards table was a big hit. The beds were comfy. Not so great: the downstairs (where three bedrooms and the bathrooms are) felt damp, even during the heatwave in late July. Two showers had curtains - not great with powerful showers! The other shower with a door was good. There are plenty of velux windows upstairs and it got very hot in the main room, but the velux pole for opening them was broken and as a result we really struggled to open a window. The main disappointment was the general level of cleanliness - corners of bedrooms clearly hadn't been cleaned for weeks, if not months. Other little niggles: our duvet cover couldn't be fastened up at the bottom as all the poppers were broken, a sink tap was loose and we discovered a half eaten casserole of some vintage left in the small fridge. These small things can easily be dealt with by proper management and cleaning and would go a long way to making this property an excellent holiday home.

  • "Lovely cottage."

Perfect base for 7 of us (and 2 dogs), all with different needs. One older person with limited mobility, 2 children and a hill walker. Will be even better when the village pub opens up again. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and efficient and the house had everything we could have wanted and more. Great holiday. We practically had the beach (10 minutes walk away) to ourselves and very handy to have the train station so close too (5 mins walk). Thank you.

  • "The house is beautiful and a great size for our party of 6 adults and 3 young children."

Lovely location with easy access to the beach, train station and a pub and shop on the door step. The description does need to be clearer that the single and cabin bedrooms are upstairs in the main living area and not too well situated for children to sleep in due to noise from the main living area of an evening. There were also only 2 tv's in the property where as the description states 3. The general cleanliness of the house wasn't great, lots of cobwebs and dust in the bedrooms as well as items under beds from past guests. The house is well equipped with lots of games, books and local walk information. Enjoyable stay over new year.

Many thanks for your feedback. There are 5 bedrooms 3 of which are on the ground floor and 2 are on the first floor with the open plan living room, kitchen and dining room. I was sorry to hear that you were unhappy with some aspects of cleanliness as we do leave a few contact numbers in the property for guests to call if they have any issues during their stay. The property is a '1873' former chapel and cobwebs can form quite quickly in some of the 'nooks and crannies' but the property is clean. I apologise that a TV had been removed without notifying you, as it had been broken by a previous guest and removed. I am glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay over New Year and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Plenty of towels, linen, kitchen and cooking utensils , cleaning products ."

Close to small shop and less than 10 minutes walk to the beach . Pub in the village doesn’t sell food - under new management . One thing which should have been mentioned in the advert is there is no garden , or back access. This is a concern considering it says it is pet friendly . We changed our mind at the last minute and didn’t bring our dog, which was fortunate when we realised there was nowhere to let her out. Equally we had 4 young children with us , so an outdoor area would have been very useful. The beds are super soft ( the double at the front is soooooo squeaky just sitting on it!!! ) No windows to see out of in the property, so you need to get out to avoid cabin fever , or get a good book

The web page does not state there is a garden. The property is a converted chapel, which has little outside ground associated with it. The property is indeed pet friendly. There are many short, medium and long walks from the chapel. Many routes are shown in the property. It is approximately 5 minutes to walk to the beach. The preference for mattresses is a personal issue. It would not be possible to change mattresses in accordance with every guest preference. I am sorry if you found the mattress in the front bedroom too soft for your choice. The chapel has retained the original stained glass windows wherever possible. The windows at the back of the living area overlook a garden. The property contains a vast library, so finding a good book shouldn’t be hard! Additionally there are many DVDs and videos, a range of board games and a billiards table, provided for guests’ entertainment. Property Owner

  • "It's a beautiful part of the world, however regarding the property we were not very impressed."

Potentially a lovely space, however: - when we arrived the front door was wide open and no-one was inside - the children felt a little spooked. - not very welcoming for kids with posters such as 'massacre of the innocents' - a bit creepy for kids. - no windows you could look out of (and few that could be opened). - very dirty when we arrived. The dining table was sticky and all cutlery / crockery was dirty and we had to wash everything before we could use it. Basically the owners need to go through cutlery / crockery and have a clearcut and replace the broken items. - no heaters in bathrooms. - uncomfortable beds (very soft) - unpleasant fly tape catchers - need more recycling bins Sorry to be negative, however in the first couple of days we did consider going back home.

I am at a loss as to why the front door was wide open upon arrival. I apologise, as this should not be the case. The door should have been double locked by the cleaner and the matter has been advised. There are a number of theatrical posters on the walls in the main living area. These are from a stage productions. There are many facilities for children at the chapel, including high chairs, cots, games, DVDs, videos, children's library and also a billiard table. The chapel has retained the original stained glass windows wherever possible. The windows at the back of the living area overlook a garden. Apart from the stained glass windows by the stairs and at the front of the living area, all windows in the property open. In addition, there are 10 roof lights in the upstairs space, all of which open. The chapel accommodates a maximum of 9 guests. There are more than 9 sets of cutlery, crockery and glasses, in case of breakages when guests are at the chapel. These are checked each week, as is the state of cleanliness. There are no heaters in the bathrooms. However, the rooms are very warm. The preference for mattresses is a personal issue. It would not be possible to change mattresses in accordance with every guest preference. I am sorry if your personally found the bed you slept in too soft for your liking. The village had a plague of small insects in the exceptionally hot weather. I appreciate the tapes are not attractive, but believe it would be far more unpleasant to stay in a property if there were many small insects in it. The system of recycling in Gwynedd is very complex. In spite of leaving clear instructions for the various bins, we found that guests were not following the rules for recycling. We therefore took the decision to remove the large number of bins. There are a number of recycling bins in the village car park, a two minute walk from the chapel. Property Owner

  • "There is plenty of cutlery, plates, glasses and utensils."

There is ample of hot water, there are three good showers. The open space kitchen living area is excellent and works well. There are books and games to keep you entertained if needed. There is a play park short walking distance, suitable for young children. Asda do online delivery. The village shop is opposite. Otherwise there is a Co op at Tywyn, about a 10 minute drive. Aberdovey is a further 10 minutes and worth going to. Short walk to railway station and a pleasant walk to a pebbly beach. The parking for a single vehicle outside is tight but there is a nearby car park, which can also be full but you should be able to find somewhere nearby. There are no plastic plates bowls, cutlery for younger children. The children bedrooms on same floor as living area so open to noise. There is only one set of keys. The key safe does not operate correctly. The village pub had just closed down. There is no outside patio or garden. A stair gate would be useful. One of the cots had a base missing.

I recently booked he wrong weekend by mistake... realised 2 days later... the property was not available for my correct weekend and I was not entitled to a refund as my booking was made within 6 weeks of departure. I wasted 700 GBP on what was a tiny mistake! Tainted my otherwise positive view of Sykes forever!

The children particularly liked the bunk bedroom and we all loved the open plan living, dining area. The Chapel has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated and had a very special feel to it. Please do not be put off by the lack of parking as there is a large free car park very close by. The little shop across the road is well stocked and the pub was very welcoming and served a reasonable Sunday Lunch.
