Coniston Water, one of the most imposing and beautiful English Lakes, is situated to the west of Lake Windermere. To the northern end of the lake, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park and makes a superb base for touring Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, while Grizedale Forest offers lovely woodland trails. The quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, or a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola'. Visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery at Hawkshead, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country, or Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing.

Built with a full-length verandah to give breathtaking views of the lake, the property boasts an open plan living area with woodburning stove, while guests can enjoy free use of the owner's boats and a private launching facility for guests' dinghies. The backdrop for Arthur Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons', the surrounding area offers excellent walking, mountain biking and climbing, with Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam close by. A quality property in one of Britain's best holiday locations.

Three bedrooms: 1 x ground floor double, 2 x 1st floor twin (zip & link beds - can be doubles on request). Ground floor bathroom with bath, basin & WC. 1st floor bathroom with shower, basin & WC. Open plan living area with fitted kitchen, sitting area with woodburner & dining area.

Electric central heating, woodburning stove in sitting area. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, small library of books/games. Power and wood for woodburner inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Cot & highchair on request. Ample off road parking. 4 acres of grounds with garden furniture. Sorry, no pets & no smoking. Shops 6 miles, pubs 2 miles. Note: There is no TV at this property. Note: Xmas & New Year charged at Peak rate plus £50. Weeks commencing: 12th Apr, 13th Sep, 11th, 18th & 25th Oct charged at High rate in 2008. Week commencing 27th Sep charged at Mid rate in 2008. Use of owner's boats/equipment is entirely at guests' own risk. Life belts not provided.

No phones, no telly and a huge garden on the lake meant our children played out every day when we weren't walking. We've just booked to go back next year!
