Ref: 2212 Rainbow Cottage
BASSENTHWAITE Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles. An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country. The Property: Rainbow Cottage A traditional Lakeland stone built semi-detached cottage, situated in a central position in the pretty village of Bassenthwaite, 8 miles from Keswick. Dating back to 1745, the cottage retains a great deal of character, including exposed beams, a fireplace of local stone and a turned stone spiral staircase. The accommodation is simple and comfortable and the amenities of the village (including the village pub) are on the doorstep. Bassenthwaite itself is ideally placed for exploring the Lakes and surrounding areas, including fell walking, pony trekking, fishing or golf, not to mention simply taking in the stunning scenery of the National Park and beyond. Accommodation Three bedrooms: 2 x double, 1 x single. Bathroom with bath with shower over, basin & WC. Kitchen with exposed beams and dining area. Spacious sitting room.
