  • "We had a wonderful stay at Fell View."

The owners Anne and Jim were so helpful and friendly, suggesting places to visit. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and well equipped with everything you need. Beautifully furnished it was lovely to snuggle up next to the log burner each evening. We also loved staying on a working farm and enjoyed looking out across the fields and over to Black Combe each day. The boys loved playing fetch with Jess the farm dog

My only slight problem is the position of the tv , being elevated and to one side of a large window ,we had to close the curtains to watch it , and could really only sit on one settee ( opposing settees ) to watch it . Being retired were telly addicts . Because of only using one settee the cushions are uncomfortable . Aside from that it is a superb cottage with a lovely view of the fells

Everything is made with love and attention to detail in this place. The cottage remains warm for a long time thanks to the modern electric radiators and a wood burning stove. The bathroom is very warm which is great! The cottage has got everything you need - the kitchen is fully equipped, the towels and bedding are provided, extra blankets are available too. We loved that it was located on a working farm, our kids enjoyed seeing the animals (cows, horses, donkey) and playing with the cutest friendly dogs. The view outside the cottage is amazing - green fields and mountains. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. We liked everything about our stay and wished we could stay for longer. We would definitely recommend this place.

The cottage was immaculate. Beautifully furnished and decorated, with a high level of attention to detail. Extremely comfortable beds. A really good shower, almost a wet room really. We loved meeting and playing catch with the dogs and being introduced to the gorgeous, placid, mint loving Rio. Although the cottage is on a farm, up a very bumpy farm track, it’s close enough to the general store in Bootle so that any shopping can be done. There’s a Tesco down the road in Millom. I think, if I had one observation, it would be regarding where the TV is placed. It’s very high up on the wall, and for those of us wearing varifocals, it made it difficult to watch. It could be lowered a bit without too much bother. This is not a complaint, just an observation. We loved staying at Fell View and can’t recommend it highly enough.

Picturesque location but don’t try taking a low-slung car down the farm track. No pub in the village but can recommend lunch in the tea room. We were there as a couple and it was ideal but feel that four adults might find it snug, especially downstairs. There is only one toilet and it is located downstairs. • "It's a lovely cottage on a farm in the countryside with stunning views."

With 1 bedroom with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds, this cottage is well suited for couples and families alike. The interior is largely high end and might even be too fancy for some people (e.g. We visited the cottage with our 6 month old baby and were scared of staining the nice table cloth so removed it.). The cottage, and in particular the kitchen, is well kitted out; you'll find everything you need to cook a nice meal for the family (you'd only need to bring the food). The owners have also kindly provided a booklet with information about local shops, restaurants and other amenities. They even provided a cot and a high chair for our baby. Where there is room for improvement is the heating arrangement. We visited the cottage in November when it was already quite cold in Bootle. There were no radiators downstairs in the living room and kitchen, only a wood stove which you kept having to load with pre-chopped wood from just outside the cottage. I supposed, while this added to the country feel of the cottage, it could get annoying to keep having to go outside to get the wood and filling up the stove. Also, this meant that you had to be home and awake to keep it warm. In the mornings when we'd come down or when we'd return from a day out, it would be freezing and would take quite some time to warm up after starting the fire. There were radiators upstairs in the bedrooms but they were pre-set and timed so it would sometimes get quite cold there too. It would have been nice to be able to control the heat ourselves. However, after mentioning to Jim and Anne, the owners, that we would like more heat they were more than happy to help and gave us a portable radiator. This helped to some extent but of course that radiator could only be in 1 room at a time. I was most concerned about the heat because of our baby e.g. having to change him in a cold room. The owners, Jim and Anne, and their family are very nice people who were more than happy to help with any query and Jim and his daughter even gave us an informative tour of the farm! And they were very kind to us when we accidentally broke the glass of the wood stove while loading it with wood. I'm not sure if I'd return to the cottage with a baby in the winter but all in all, it was a very nice and cosy place to visit and we'd definitely recommend it.

We found a full tea tray with biscuits and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. The beds were super comfy and there were extra blankets if needed. Bringing in the logs and lighting the wood burner was a ritual every evening and it was great to have a limitless supply. The views from the cottage are beautiful and the children loved seeing the horses in the adjacent field. Jim was very kind and showed the children the new lambs and new born calves whilst everyone enjoyed throwing sticks for the farm dogs who are very friendly. The location to the west of the lake district meant we enjoyed peace and quiet away from the crowds, visiting some of the more remote corners including Wast Water but still being only 30 minutes from Coniston. Being so near the coast too meant we could easily reach the beach for walks and the odd family game of football. Bootle is a lovely village with a well stocked shop. We enjoyed a great holiday here and would recommend it to anyone.
