The location is perfect for a Northumberland holiday and for visiting Newcastle. The only reason I have not given the highest marks for comfort is that the dining chairs have suffered a degree of subsidence but this shouldn't put anyone off: I imagine most people will eat out and there are plenty of places in the vicinity.

Although the initial impressions were good, it soon became clear that there were old cobwebs in corners and on the skylights and the oven had not been cleaned. Over the following days we noticed more and more residue from previous occupants such as detrius in the drawers and stains on the furniture. The property itself had several issues including blown bulbs, non working fan in the en suite bathroom, broken regulator on the shower in the other bathroom (meaning that it only went from very hot to scalding hot) and noise from aircraft landing at nearby Newcastle airport as late as 01:30.

... I thought Sykes, I wonder if they have a Cowshed with the critical facilities "walkin shower or wet room" a double and a twin room and near a pub and people when we go off and leave my mother and brother for a half day, in the Derby/Peak district.? Sure enough there was the "Old Cowshed" and "Zoe's Cowshed" in Witten ref: xx etc. although there are about 4 more steps than the "Cowshed" in Haddon and no wet room but a single shower which should be alright. It looks idillic and peacefully set in the country... if all goes well we will be extremely satisfied customers... Thank you very much indeed. Cynthia and family

Owner (lives on-site next door) is supremely helpful but in no way interfering. Excellent location to tour east (not far - Newcastle then the sea..), west (Cumbria and the rest of Hadrian's Wall beckons), north (the main draw - all the stunning Northumbrian beaches and castles) and south (into North Yorkshire pet). Lovely Welcome pack on arrival - so a cuppa on arrival after a long journey is oh so gratefully received. Note that the master bedroom's en-suite actually has a wonderful large walk-in deluge shower - not mentioned by the owners or on the website (but it should be!). The whole place is perfectly accessible as is on one level - but there is a step into the front door or a much smaller step via the French Windows into the master bedroom (once you are in and have got the key..). Lovely little village with a nice pub (Lion and lamb) that serves really nice food. Note Horsley now only has a single pub as the other has recently closed. There is no local village shop, so Heddon-on-the-Wall (about 3 miles) for papers, milk and fuel etc. Corbridge (7 miles) is a lovely little town which we love and there are restaurants and cafes aplenty.
