GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles.

Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside. Good sandy beaches are a five minute drive away, as are a loch and river fishing. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse's cotton spinning days. Today there are several shops in the town including a baker, butcher, grocer as well as a bank and post office and many of the pubs have restaurant facilities and welcome children.

The Property: Gilfillan

A traditional whitewashed terraced cottage situated in a quiet position in a conservation area in the centre of Gatehouse. An ideal base for enjoying the Kirkcudbrightshire coast with sandy beaches just a 5 minute drive away.

Unlike some cottages which are excellent for a week or two's stay, we really felt we could live in this one.

A very comfortable property in a pleasant rural area with very good local pubs and a good variety of local shops in walking distance. Galloway is a beautiful city to explore, we hope to return.
Mrs Burley, Saxmundham, Suffolk

Better than the photographs indicated. The area is good for walking, golf, bird watching and touring. Good food at the nearby Masonic Arms and Murray Arms hotel.

One of the best equipped cottages I have ever rented. Lots of pots and pans to cook with. Very comfortable bed. Very good for dogs. Nice neighbours! Dumfries and Galloway is a fantastic area, beautiful, quiet and very friendly. If all your properties are this standard then I'm very impressed, will definitely book again!
Dr Gibbs, Leeds, West Yorkshire

Very well equipped. The brochure photos didn't do it justice. A pint of Galloway beer at the Masonic Arms is highly recommended!
