GATEHOUSE OF FLEET Kirkcudbright 8 miles; Newton Stewart 15 miles. Peaceful in its pastel colours, the small country town of Gatehouse of Fleet lies on the Solway Firth, in the midst of Dumfries & Galloway countryside. Good sandy beaches are a five minute drive away, as are a loch and river fishing. The town was founded in the 1760s as a mill community and today the nearby Mill on the Fleet - a visitor centre in a former bobbin mill - tells the tale of Gatehouse's cotton spinning days. Today there are several shops in the town including a baker, butcher, grocer as well as a bank and post office and many of the pubs have restaurant facilities and welcome children.
The Property: Gilfillan A traditional whitewashed terraced cottage situated in a quiet position in a conservation area in the centre of Gatehouse. The cottage has been recently modernised to provide comfortable and well equipped holiday accommodation. A particular feature is its large and enclosed south facing back garden - ideal for young children and ball games. An ideal base for enjoying the Kirkcudbrightshire coast with sandy beaches just a 5 minute drive away.
Accommodation Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x adult size bunks, folding bed on request. Bathroom with bath with shower over, washbasin and WC. Modern fitted kitchen with utility room off. Sitting/dining room with open fire.
Amenities Full gas central heating and additional heating from open fire in sitting room. Gas cooker, microwave, fridge, automatic washing machine, colour TV, video (until April 2008), DVD (from April 2008), stereo system etc. Gas and electricity inc. in rent during summer, gas charged from meter reading 13 Oct to 30 Mar. Bed linen inc. in rent. Cot on request. Ample roadside parking. Large south facing garden with patio area and garden furniture. One well behaved pet welcome. Shop and pub 2 mins walk.
