Ref: 726 The Old Coach House
BUXTON It was the constant 28 degrees Centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual Festival of Music and Arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south. A great base for exploring the Peak District.

| Previous Visitors' Comments | The company and Buxton! Cottage was lovely, cosy even in winter. Just opposite the park and fantastic kids area, so the fact that there is no garden, is no issue, as you are 1 minute away from the park. 10 mins stroll from the centre of Buxton and prime position on the park. Theatre highly recommended - we were there in pantomime season. Fill up your water bottles from the free, warm Buxton spring water tap in the centre of town. Make sure to get to Bakewell - the Bakewell pudding shop is excellent, as is the restaurant / tea shop above it. We were very lazy, but plenty of wonderful walks nearby. When I got off the train at Euston and smelled the pollution, I realised what a dirty place London is! Owners - on site and helpful but not nosey!

Aug 2003 | Very impressed with service by yourselves, and would definitely book cottages with you again, and recommend you to others. So handy to be opposite Pavilion Gardens with playground, gardens, tearooms, ducks, etc. Location so peaceful - even though it is a town, The Beehive nearby serves excellent food.
