  • "5 Ivy Terrace is an absolutely lovely place to stay, it felt like home."

Everything you could possibly need was provided, the beds were comfortable & the place was spotless. The location was perfect, from the view out the windows to the short walk to beach walks. Everything you could wish to explore is a short drive away. The hosts were lovely and gave us some wonderful suggestions of places to eat and visit. We will definitely be returning & recommending Ivy Terrace to friends and family who may be looking to visit Wales. These Aussies have found their favorite place in Wales.

  • "The house was perfect for our family holiday."

Lovely and warm and welcoming on arrival, easy to find the keys, and really well equipped. The main thing about the house is the location, the views are stunning. We appreciated the log burner stove, which made the lounge very cosy, and the kitchen had everything we needed.

Bedroom with the balcony at the front was my favourite place to be all week with the amazing views over the bay. House was well stocked with everything you need to enjoy your holiday especially the well equipped kitchen. Ian the owner was especially attentive to make sure our stay was flawless.

  • "The accommodation suited us very well."

It was accurately described, roomy, comfortable, and quiet. The kitchen was unusually well-equipped for self-catering accommodation. The extra living room turned out to be more of a bonus than we were expecting as the children liked it there and left us in relative peace in the main living room. The location and the view are outstanding. The garden was lovely too, though sadly the weather wasn't good enough to enjoy it. Obviously no-ones fault and in Wales such weather is to be expected. None of us had been to Borth Y Gest before and we all thought it beautiful, plus there is lots to do in the area which can be reached by car or public transport. It is also within easy walking distance of Porthmadog where there are good supermarkets and eating places.

It was our second stay at the house and it was even better than the first - the most amazing views, wonderful coastal walks and the children loved the beach. Great communication with the owner. Highly recommend. Thank you.

  • "This was our fifth stay in this beautiful cottage and we have already booked our next one for September."

The cottage is well equipped and I can’t think of anything else which is needed. The view from the cottage is outstanding, it’s wonderful to watch the tide flow in and out against the backdrop of the mountains, which were covered in snow when we arrived. Just walk around the corner to explore amazing beaches and take the footpath’s up the hill to savour the views at various points. Conveniently there is a café next door for drinks and delicious food. It’s an easy stroll into Porthmadog if you want more restaurants/shops. We travel a lot in the UK and abroad, this has to be one of our favourite places for a relaxing break. We highly recommend this cottage.

  • "Ivy Terrace is an absolute delight- our second visit was just as fabulous as our first and have booked to come again."

Views of the estuary, walks from the door, comfy and cosy, well provided kitchen, made it so relaxing. Plenty of living space make it great for a party of 6. I just keep remembering sitting in the window seat watching the light change on the bay. Bliss.

  • "We decided to have a short break and on the recommendation of friends we booked 5 Ivy Terrace in Borth y Gest ."

We are pleased we did as the house is in a wonderful location in the centre of the village with far reaching views over the estuary and beyond. The house itself was immaculate with a well-equipped kitchen a comfortable lounge and dining room with large bay windows. The upstairs lounge was a bonus. We loved the window seat where we watched the world go by and the tides come and go. We walked from the house every day to the beaches, took a short, pleasant walk over to Porthmadog and explored in and around the village. It was great returning to the house at the end of a day’s walking to settle down in front of a roaring log burner. This is a house and location to return to time and time again.

  • "Upon arrival-the place was dirty-all paintwork was shabby-the seats were very uncomfortable especially the suite which was well past its sell by date-the dining set was akin to sitting on a wooden frame-cheap furniture-books and films obviously left by others all being old-towels being like cardboard and so thin-good job we took our own-tv system was a chore with the magic eye broken and missing-small things build up and cause problems-we actually left early due to these problems-was there any mileage in complaining to the owners."

..no they would not have done anything!!

During twelve years of renting our property, and around four hundred bookings, we have never felt the need to take issue with feedback, in fact we welcome it even if critical and try and improve ares identified. We are not perfect. During this let our locked owners cupboard was opened and items were removed. Other instances occurred and there are missing items we cannot account for. We have reported the details in full to Sykes but they still insisted in listing this review much to our disappointment. If you do read this review I would appeal to you to read down though the others listed. I would hope they place what is written above in perspective. Property Owner

It was well equipped, comfortable, extremely clean. The location was excellent and we visited some familiar places which were easy to access from Borth y Gest. Each morning we rose with the sun beaming through the windows over the cove which was directly in front of us. Beautiful walking to some of our favorite beaches. The owner of the house was a great communicator and promptly responded to all questions. The top porch was a bonus, as was the gardenwhere my granddaughter perfected her cartwheels each evening.

About the location

BORTH-Y-GEST

Porthmadog 1.2 miles; Criccieth 6 miles.

Borth-y-Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth-y-Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth-y-Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.
