BASLOW

Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.

The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Very convenient for Chatsworth House/grounds. Conservatory on front of property good for taking off and storing boots etc. Wheatsheaf hotel and cafe on the green, very good food.

The cottage was equipped to a high standard, the owner was there to meet us and was very helpful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is set in the perfect place to explore many old and new haunts in the Peak District. We even managed a visit to Lincoln cathedral. The village shop is only 2 doors away, selling all the basics, with very helpful staff as well. I hope our trip to Cornwall in July is as good- although perhaps a little warmer!

The location is ideal as a base for exploring the Peak District without your car, with some excellent local walks and regular bus services to surrounding areas. We would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to anyone. Many thanks!
