  • "When we booked the holiday I’ll be honest the cottage looked just ‘okay’ in the pictures."

But when we arrived they just don’t do the cottage justice. It’s warm, cosy, homely and super clean and we felt relaxed as soon as we stepped inside. The location is perfect and although we had plenty of rain we still got out and enjoyed ourselves. The garden is lovely and secure for our two beagles with a good fence all round. I just hope they didn’t make too much noise!! There was no rumble of distant traffic and the night skies were awesome with no light pollution. It was everything I wanted for a break to celebrate my 50th and is a credit to the owner.

  • "This is a lovely, cosy and warm cottage with a sense of isolation, which was just perfect for us and our dog Mikki (though only a couple of miles from Beddgelert)."

The cottage was very clean and well equipped and the owner could not have been more friendly and helpful (whilst also giving us privacy and space). The garden was secure for our pooch and there was a lovely terrace to sit out on should the weather allow. Walks from the door include the spectacular riverside walk up to Beddgelert (though care is needed on the route during wet weather and high water). Nantmor has a stop on the Welsh Highland Railway. Go stay and don't believe any negative reviews about this accommodation.

  • "Lovely cottage, has everything you need for your stay."

Home from Home. Views from the cottage are lovely and plenty of walking from the doorstep. Perfect location for local walks or a short drive to many of the Snowdon paths, we walked the Watkin path and lucky that the weather was sunny and mild for the time of the year. Beddgelert a 10min drive. Beddgelert to Porthmadog a 15min drive. The owner is on hand if you need anything but makes sure your welcomed when you arrive. Definitely one that we’ll be returning to.

  • "Property listed as accessible for wheelchairs."

We couldn’t get the wheelchair out of our vehicle even with our ramp due to large deep rocks. The threshold over the doorway was two high and no ramp provided. I had to be carried from the vehicle. Owner amended the listing day before we left. The property has beautiful views over the fields and mountains, lots of sheep and birds to see. Well equipped kitchen but only one shelf in oven. Some cupboards could do with some attention. Property soon gets warm we had to open windows at times. Bedrooms had plenty of storage, double bed needs attention uncomfortable for us both. Smaller bedroom smelt of damp, informed owner who came but said couldn’t smell anything. If damp we would see mould and bedding be wet. I wouldn’t recommend leaving items on the floor as they did get damp. When it rained it rains heavily against that wall. You get no phone signal which was no issue as WiFi. Cobwebs were left but most areas were clean. Shower was powerful but a very small rectangle head so difficult to wash. There is a shower chair available. Beautiful paintings throughout the property. Due to issues with listing and not being as accessible as originally advertised would restrict us booking again, but the property is in a beautiful location.

  • "Lovely stay in this peaceful quiet little hideaway."

Comfy beds and cosy living room with lovely views. The owner greeted us and informed us that she was available to deal with any problems should we encounter any. We didn’t but it was nice to know. The property was as described. We loved it and have already booked for next year. Just to note - an inventory of the kitchen would be advisable for the coming season. Glasses have seen better days, chopping knives need replacing, frying pans and oven proof dishes require upgrading, no kitchen scissors. Although the directions to the property are detailed we had some difficulty locating it on first arrival due to darkness, heavy rain and it being hidden from the road. Perhaps a bigger sign on the approach lane and on the closed gate would be beneficial.

The garden was beautiful, private, and secure for our dog to freely run around so we could all truly relax. The cottage was comfortable and warm despite the wet weather and cooler temperature. The location is ideal to explore many fantastic walks (even without driving), access to Mt Snowdon but also Zip world and all Snowdonia has on offer. Hospitality was great, welcome cake and even flowers and a card for our anniversary. Thank you!

  • "Firstly, for the dog owners who have trawled through and either can't find the info on any of the cottages or are sick of looking at places that claim they have a garden but it's a square of gravel, let me reassure you."

This cottage has French doors on the lounge and a door on the bedroom. There is a massive patio and a pretty cottage garden. It is secured by posts and stock fencing and approx 4 feet high. The resident dog did not come near the fence but the sheep do wander into the field at the bottom and side of the garden so may not suit if your dog is reactivate to animals. There are three steps from the patio to the garden but, if these are a problem, you could go out of the front door and walk a couple of feet to the garden gate and access it that way. The cottage is clean, the mattress very comfy- and I am extremely fussy about mattresses - and generally well equipped. The views are so relaxing and there is plenty of wildlife to watch if you want an escape. All you can hear are bees, sheep and birds, wonderful. You can also walk from the doorstep and there are lovely places to visit within a very short distance. I was lucky, I had amazing weather and spent most of my time here. I felt safe as a solo traveller as Gaye and her family are on hand if you need them but certainly not intrusive in any way.

It is the perfect location for seclusion, feeling totally private. It has dramatic views and is so peaceful and quiet, no road traffic just bird song. The owner makes you feel very welcome. The cottage is decorated well and the cupboards have everything you need. There is no phone signal from inside the cottage, although you can pick one up if you walk towards the owners home. • "Although this cottage is set in a lovely area and in itself is cosy and functional, our main issue was the presence of mice in the property."

On the 3rd morning we found chewed remains of chocolate and on further investigation we found an abundance of mouse droppings behind the microwave and along the work surface in the kitchen. No one was available at the owners property until the evening to provide a solution and on the evening we were horrified to realise that this issue was not going to be dealt with by the cottage owner but instead by ourselves. She handed me 3 mouse traps and turned the conversation to the lovely day out that she had had that day. She did not come to the cottage to make any assessment of the situation on that evening which we consider totally unacceptable, although she did attend the following morning to ask if any had been caught. One of the traps had caught a mouse on that night and also on the following night. We do understand that rural areas may be prone to these issues but consider that the way it was dealt with was not acceptable. Restaurants are closed down if there is a presence of mice. We can only assume that there were mice around for the whole of our stay, and were quite clearly in the cottage as we slept. We will not reserve this cottage again as a result of these findings, and depending on how Sykes Cottages handle our experience, we will consider very carefully whether we book with your company in the future.

The pictures don't really do it justice - there is a good porch with coat hooks, shoe/boot rack and a huge selection of tourist information leaflets; this opens into a fairly wide tiled hall / passageway which makes the cottage more spacious than it seems from the pictures. It's very cottagey and homely with a lot of art and ornaments to look at when the cloud comes down and you can't see the lovely views outside. The wifi worked without any fuss (not always the case) and there is an ice-box style freezer compartment within the fridge which I am sure would have been worth mentioning in the description and a useful combi washer/drier as well. The kitchen has everything you could need and is quite spacious too. The cottage is well-located for many excellent walks; the enclosed side garden was useful for the dog and I'm sure it is pretty too in the right season. The owner is right next door but her house is the other side of the big barn, so the cottage feels secluded and it is a beautiful and peaceful spot. I'd consider it again for a winter break.

Secluded spot at end of a lane but not too far away from civilisation if required! Perfect location with easy access to Snowdonia and surrounded area. Best time of the year to get up Snowdon and avoid the crowds, especially during the hottest day of the year so far!

  • "This amazing cottage is set right in the mountains, so peaceful and private."

The cottage was roomy and comfortable, everything and more you could want was provided. The garden was beautiful and a real sun trap with wonderful countryside views. The main plus point for us was that the garden was completely enclosed so safe for our two dogs. I would recommend this cottage to anyone but would prefer to keep it a secret, hopefully we may be able to return another year.

About the location

BEDDGELERT

Porthmadog 7.7 miles; Caernarfon 12.8 miles.

The picturesque village of Beddgelert lies in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park at the foot of Mount Snowdon. Beddgelert is a bustling village with arts and craft shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, centred around the Afon Glaslyn river. A 20 minute stroll along the river will take you to the Aberglaslyn Pass, one of North Wales’ most famous beauty spots. The Welsh Highland Steam Railway passes through the village on its journey from Porthmadog to Caernarfon. Beddgelert is famed for its monument to the Welsh Prince Llewelyn's dog, whom the Prince killed thinking it had attacked and killed his son, only to discover afterwards it had been defending his son from a savage wolf attack. With Porthmadog, Portmeirion, Borth y Gest and the whole of the Llyn Peninsula easily reached, this is an ideal location for a Welsh holiday.
