  • "This cottage is ideally suited near to Upton on Severn, easy short walk into town."

The cottage is advertised as three double rooms ie maximum for six people, however we felt the cottage was more suited to a couple or a family of four. This is due to the bathroom facilities which are old and desperately need modernisation. The cottage is well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery. There is adequate cooking utensils. The cottage would be improved by having a washing machine which incorporated a drier, this would free up the tumble dryer to instal a dish washer - who wants to wash up on holiday! The downstairs is comfortable and cosy but very dark, better lighting or more lamps would be great - difficult to read at night! The fact that there were no instructions on how to use any of the equipment ie microwave, hot water, where the bins were, and what to do with linen etc on leaving the property was very remiss and needs rectifying asap. There was no information on nearest A&E, doctors dentists etc also remiss. A visitors book where guests can write recommendations on pubs, restaurants and places to visit is always helpful and welcome when visiting somewhere new. The cottage could do with improvements in a few areas to greatly enhance a stay. We did have a problem during our stay concerning the bathroom which was addressed quickly.

Despite the cottage being old it is warm and the gas stove made it cosy. The kitchen was well equipped and we appreciated the travel cot, high chair and stair gates fitted for our toddler. Thank you.

The fire in the living room kicks out great heat!! Great location, can wander into town where there are plenty of eating places, or over the other side of the Marina where you can get a great breakfast! Owner responds to messages quickly and is very accommodating.

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Easy walk into town. Well equipped. We were lucky with the weather so the barbecue, water cooler, and electric fans in the bedrooms were especially useful. Also lovely to have tea and coffee and jams in the house on arrival. Owner very kindly let us stay later on the day of check out as she didn't have anyone arriving that day which was brilliant. Lots of eating places nearby along with a coop and spa so easy to get groceries etc. Parked the car on arrival and didn't move it until we left 5 days later. Marina next door where you can hire a boat for a day or half a day. Lots of gentle walking from the door.

Joyce was an excellent communicator and kept in touch to make sure we had everything we needed, thank you. We visited lots of beautiful places including the Cotswolds, Cheltenham, Gloucester Docks and Worcester, to name a few. We cannot recommend Joyce and Derek’s cottage highly enough. Clean and tidy throughout. In a quiet and peaceful location with a short stroll to the centre of Upton with lots of shops and cafes and pubs with great food. Fruit farm nearby that has local produce in their shop. Local walks from the cottage were very good, and short drives out to Pershore, Malvern and Worcester were also super. We found Rose Cottage perfect for our needs and would return for 2 weeks next time.

Towels were stained. Bathroom also had not been cleaned. Oven covered in grease- grill tray covered in grease and roasting pan rusty. Contacted owner who said she would send a cleaner. Cleaner did not arrive and had to buy 3 sets of sheets. When bedding was changed duvets and mattress covers were stained with sweat marks. Fortunately, managed to find somewhere else to stay so left after 2 nights. Owner refused any refund.

A couple more basic utensils in the drawer such as a wooden or silicone spoon as there was nothing soft to stir pans with and I didn't want to damage the non-stick. Also there wasn't any provision for recycling we had to bring it all home? In 2022 with the climate crisis this is a basic necessity.

The cottage was as listed and a good size for an old building, but it felt unloved and in need of a refresh. A deep clean, some new dining room chairs that didn't squeek and new mattresses would have warranted the fifth star. All in all it is a good place for a holiday and had plenty of facilities for a well appointed cottage.

The cottage has everything you need plus more and is very comfortable. I especially like the location, it is a short walk to the town which has everything you need. Travelling from overseas I appreciated the care basket of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sauces and also having a clothes dryer, makes laundry so much quicker! When I first stayed in November 2016, I was not familiar with the use of the electric cooktop and oven and the fireplace but the owners were so kind and helpful and took their time to explain to me how to use each of them. The owners made me feel very welcomed and when I returned in Sept 2017, it felt like I was coming back home.
