  • "It is a very well appointed cottage and the owners are both very approachable and friendly."

In the cottage there was lots of room for both me and my dog. The kitchen had everything I needed and the bedroom was a good size with plenty of hanging space. The bathroom has a good shower and overall it is very warm in the cold evenings. The welcoming bottle of wine, biscuits and treats for my dog were inspired. As others have said, the only let down is the sofa which is very uncomfortable, it just seems to be the wrong size & has no headrest. Otherwise perfect and a place I would definitely return to.

  • "A great stay for a week as a family of four."

The hosts are on hand if needed and are very polite and friendly, they let our kids use the garden and trampoline & stroke the dogs which were the highlight of their time away. The setting on a working farm may not be the prettiest but for the amount of time we were in the cottage it really didn't matter, it was a great base and only a 5 minute drive into Matlock. Inside was clean with the basic facilities you needed and it felt homely. We would return again.

  • "This is a high spec holiday cottage, rustic style interior, located about 100 yards off the A632, on a farm, with friendly owners always at hand."

It is quiet, with plenty of parking space. The living room is small but adequate for a family with 2 children. The kitchen is sizeable and well equipped. The bedrooms are a good size, with additional hand basin in the 2nd bedroom.

there are a lot of walks about, both short and long. Matlock Town Centre is only 5 minutes away, I must recommend Matlock Fish and Chip shop, very tasty.

  • "Great place to stay in a good position to explore the Towns and Villages around the Dales, close to Matlock and plenty of Pubs and takeaways a short drive away."

Nice little cottage with good facilities People were nice and we and our Terrier enjoyed the twice daily visit from Jess the Jack Russell. Nice dog walks right out of the farm and nice shared garden. ( make sure Dog on lead as not secure, but no problem just common sense) The only thing we did'nt find so good was the not too comfy low backed sofa in the living room. Apart from that we had a really nice stay here and would highly recommend.

  • "The cottage was ideal, it was cute and cosy, clean and well equipped."

The location was great, quick drive into town, bus stop at the top of the drive and nice walks around the cottage. The only downside for us was that dogs aren't allowed upstairs and it didn't say this anywhere in the information, so we didn't know until we got there by which time it was too late. We have an anxious old boy who would have been deeply distressed to be left downstairs on his own in a strange place, so one of had to sleep on the sofa each night. Apart from that it was lovely, owners left a few bits for us and the dog, which was a nice touch, and it was very welcoming. Definitely recommend it!

  • "Rambler's Cottage is a charming 'home away from home'."

From the welcome pack for both me and my dog, to the friendliness of all on the farm, I cannot fault my stay at the cottage. My stay was made all the more 'homely' by my twice daily visits from Jess the Jack Russell who came in to check that we were looking after the place and having a treat at the same time! The knowledge of the area shared by Stuart was so useful and helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him or Janet and it was lovely to hear about their lives and livelihood as well as their extensive knowledge of places to go and things to do. Communication with Clare (the owner) was great and again, nothing was too much trouble - I look forward to visiting again.

  • "Generally, the property lived up to expectations, with one important reservation."

The kitchen & bedrooms were excellent, well equipped in the case of the former, extremely comfortable for the latter. As three older guests, the disappointment was the lounge, where the furniture, comprising a large dining table and four chairs accompanied a large, low-backed, deep-seated sofa and low chair which were made uncomfortable, by not providing good back/head support and in the case of the sofa, proving difficult from which to get up. That said, our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful, providing delicious wine and shortbread on our arrival. This area of the Peak District is unsurpassed for its beauty and places of interest and we will happily rebook!

  • "A lovely cottage tastefully decorated with helpful owners."

I need to say at the outset that our booking was probably not a typical one. Since the beginning of the first coronavirus lockdown my wife and I have sought out some of the most isolated holiday lets in south Derbyshire to spend time with our daughter and family who live between Derby and Nottingham. Being away from crowds in a rural location seemed to us the safest option for a short break.. This means we did not use many of the facilities provided.Simple breakfasts and microwaved suppers sufficed as we ate with our family for most of the time. The cottage was clean and absolutely as described. All the facilities we used worked well and the owners were very helpful. For parents with young children there is not a lot for children to do on site outside of the house as it is only about 100 yards from a busy road and the farm is a working farm. However Matlock itself has much to offer for children with a wonderful park including a skate park. The only negative about the whole stay was the temperature on arrival. It is a typical stone built farmhouse with thick walls which take a while to heat up so the central heating needs to be turned up a couple of hours before guests arrive in winter. I would recommend this cottage for anyone wanting a quiet, clean well decorated place to stay.
