We loved our stay, great holiday. Off the beaten track and quiet and secluded . Luckily the lovely owners of a neighbouring cottage were able to direct us to the cottage as our sat nav couldn't find the cottage.Supermarket was easily found in the village of kirkcudbright, which has a lot of shops and cafes that we were able to sit outside with our dog and we were able to get all the provisions required for our stay. Thanks to the owners recommendation,we went to brighouse bay beach where lucy our border collie loved the waves. Cottage had everything we needed with a large garden which we and our dog enjoyed. Decor inside and outside could do with a refresh but it's a great little place and we hope to be back in the future.

Facilities in the cottage were perfect. It was the most peaceful place to unwind for a week. The garden was a real bonus, and a joy to sit out and enjoy the countryside. It was also completely secure for our 1 year old Lurcher who had a great time! In answer to an earlier review the parking is not a problem. We have a Land Rover and reversing up the drive to park every day was fine! Kirkcudbright was only 10 minutes drive away, and is a lovely little town with plenty of dog friendly places to eat and drink. Granted we had one of the hottest weeks in Scotland on record, but we will definitely book the cottage again outside of the summer months. All in all, cannot recommend too highly! Jeff and Di

  • "Very secluded cottage off the beaten track."

Seemed to take forever after leaving the A75. Although the directions are clear be aware the post code is not accurate, so better following the supplied instructions. We turned into the drive thinking there would be a turning point unfortunately there was not and we needed to reverse out, not easy has the edge on one side was very over grown, and low dry wall making it difficult for either the passenger or driver to exit. After that we reversed in very slowly, even with a camera was a little tricky. I should point this a medium size car, Land Rover or other type and size of vehicle would struggle. On entry the property was clean with all the normal features, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc in the kitchen with dining table, a roomy lounge area with Sky TV. WiFi was provided, but it was very slow, not really the owners fault, probably due to the distance to the exchange. I did use my mobile data alot. Both bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. I found our bedroom very warm at night. The shower was excellent, with constant hot water. We tried to keep the place tidy unfortunately there was no vacuum, so with a dog the carpet became quite messy by the end of the week. Overall, the interior was OK and comfortable. But looked a bit tied, could do with a refresh. It should be noted in colder weather only one days worth of logs are proved, and need to provide your own. This did not apply to us as the weather was outstanding. Outside the garden was lovely with a nice table chairs and parasol, around the corner another part of the garden. The garden was the best feature. Lovely location, but the single track road was quite busy with farm traffic and you need to extremely careful. I had the joy one morning of both a hare and red deer running down the road. The town of Kirkcudbright was about 3 miles away, make sure you take a left from the property, not right that my SatNav sent me along a single track road with no passing places. You can pick up most of your supplies from there as takeaway food. The town its self is very beautiful. We had a great holiday and loved the area.

Picked up two lots of dog poo, the dog toilet next to bike shed was inaccessible due to brambles and nettles and the area where the washing line was, had foot high grass. Three days in the toilet started to back up and needed the engineer. Microwave needed cleaning when we arrived, freezer needs defrosting and mould around the rim. Had to buy cleaning spray for the kitchen and bathroom. Sun room dirty and damp covers. Bought games from charity shops for when the weather was bad. For three days we waited in for cleaner who was supposed to drop of the towels and every time we rang her the number was unavailable, eventually 2 sets of towels but no kitchen towel which we ended up washing it was dropped of. This cottage is only suitable for one week and in all the years self catering we have never experienced such a bad experience. Thankfully all the problems with the cottage did not spoil our wedding and honeymoon!!! Never again will we book with Sykes!!

Thank you for your feedback. We discussed all of the issues throughout your holiday. There had been damage caused by previous guests and the owner was unable to get the snug room fixed within the changeover timeframe prior to your stay. Previous guests have not cleaned up after their dog during their holiday. This is checked on changeover cleans, however, it is guests responsibility to clean any mess up after them. The grass had been cut a week before your arrival. We tried contacting you to arrange the gardener to come out and cut the grass. You were not required to wait in for a cleaner but stated you preferred to at the property. A mid-stay changeover linen and clean was offered but declined. 3 full weeks of linen and towels were provided for your 3 week honeymoon holiday and additional linen was requested. A mid-stay changeover linen and clean was offered but was declined. Typically, a mid-stay changeover clean would be offered each week but as this was declined, they were unable meet usual requirements due to a customer’s decision. We are glad you enjoyed your wedding and honeymoon celebrations. Property Owner

The location is so quiet we could hear owls in the next field at night time. The garden is great and our dog loved having a play in the morning before we headed out for the day. There are lots of places to visit that are not too far away. I would recommend a trip to see the Red kite feeding station at Bellymack hill farm watching the Red kites coming in to feed is an amazing sight. Kirkcudbright town is really nice and we found all we needed there the tesco was handy for essentials and polar bites on the harbour do fab chips. About the location

KIRKCUDBRIGHT

Dumfries 25 miles.

The historic and picturesque town of Kirkcudbright sits on the banks of the River Dee on the north Solway coast. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455 this small port town has always been supported by a busy fishing trade and is home to a blue flag marina. Behind this working harbour, its wide streets and pastel-coloured houses, a mix of Georgian and Victorian town houses make for a very attractive town centre. Particular places of interest are the Tolbooth Museum, Broughton House and Gardens (National Trust for Scotland), the Stewartry Museum, MacLellan's Castle, and the newly refurbished town Art Gallery. Kirkcudbright is also known as the 'Artists' Town'. From the 1870s onwards the town has both produced and attracted a wide range of talented artists and crafts people, and there is a fine collection of art galleries and arts and crafts shops. If you want your holiday to include some breaks from cooking you will find plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from, including the historic Selkirk Arms Hotel, and, near the harbour, Polar Bites, a very good fish restaurant as well as being a takeaway. Throughout the summer the town organises a wide range of activities including the four day Arts and Crafts Trail, four-day Jazz Festival, a weekly Scottish night with pipe band and dancing (especially for children), weekly town tours, farmers markets, a vintage car rally... the list is endless. Visitors can also use the town's swimming pool, bowling club, golf club and tennis courts. Further afield there is the Galloway Activity Centre on beautiful Loch Ken, which offers a range of water sports, or perhaps best of all are the opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, or just driving along the coasts and in the hills and valleys in some of Scotland's loveliest unspoilt scenery.
