Just Show Me Hathersage Cottages
Jane Eyre, Little John, pins and needles, not to mention extraordinary gritstone edges for enthusiastic rock-climbers - all sorts of attractions near our Hathersage cottages.
At the eastern end of Hope Valley, Hathersage is an attractive village full of character, with strong industrial, historical and literary associations. In 1845, Charlotte Brontë paid a visit and wrote her masterpiece Jane Eyre - the book is full of regional references and the name 'Eyre' stems from a local family she met. Stride out from your Hathersage cottage to North Lees Hall, better known as 'Thornfield', Mr Rochester's home. It's one of Hathersage's pride and joys, a 16th Century tower house offering panoramic views.
Feel the adrenalin rush rock climbing at Millstone and Stanage Edges. Explore way-marked trails and packhorse routes through ancient woods, meadows and moorland at the National Trust's Longshaw Estate & Country Park. For mesmerising views, trek to the top of the ancient hill fort, Carl Wark.
Back in the village potter around the shops or have a bite to eat in a traditional coaching inn. Hire a bike, take a dip in the open-air swimming pool or hop on the train for some retail therapy in Sheffield. View Little John's grave - yes, the legendary friend of Robin Hood is said to be buried in St. Michael's graveyard. Or splash out on stylish kitchen wear at David Mellor's Cutlery Factory and Design Museum.
An attraction for everyone when you book a Hathersage cottage!
