Ambleside Sports and lake

Ambleside Sports

Visiting the Lake District during the summer months? You may be lucky enough to catch Ambleside Sports, the traditional Lakeland sporting event dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

While back then cock-fighting and bare fist boxing were included in the programme, today’s event includes wrestling, track races, fell races, hound trailing and grass track cycling.

Ambleside sports also incorporate children’s races for toddlers to age 11. Traditional running races in different age categories take place alongside traditional novelty races such as sack and bean bag and bucket races. Mums and dads also get the chance to compete in a sprint race!

Entries for track races are available on the day, so make sure you pack your running shoes!

A day of fun awaits at the historic Ambleside Sports…
