Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge Walk

One of the most recognisable scenes from the Peak District, Stanage Edge is a gritstone precipice that is favoured by walkers and rock climbers for its fantastic views of the surrounding area.

Taking you along the edge of the two rugged escarpments of Stanage Edge and Bamford Edge, this walk is definitely one for the bucket list.

Directions

  1. Start at the Dennis Knoll Car Park before heading left and continuing to the southwest along the Long Causeway.
  2. Keep to the right until you reach a small gate next to a layby on your right.
  3. Once through the gate, keep left before arriving at a fork in the path. Take the fork to the right and ascend towards Bamford Edge.
  4. Follow the path left for a short while before turning left at the junction leading you around Great Tor and bringing you closer to the edge.
  5. Take the next junction right and then take the next right at the fork in the path.
  6. Continue straight, observing Ladybower Reservoir to your left.
  7. Keep left at the next fork and follow the path leading you over a stream and then towards the Rivelin Tunnel Sighting Towers.
  8. Continue down the hill and over Jarvis Clough. At the junction take the right path, followed by a second right.
  9. At the fork, bear left and venture uphill to reach Stanage Edge.
  10. Follow the path to the right for 0.8 miles, to eventually reach the highest point known as High Neb.
  11. Take the trail to the right, following it south for half a mile, crossing over a stile, and re-joining Long Causeway.
  12. Follow the road right to bring you back to the car park where you started.
