Harter Fell

If you’re a hiker who’s after a walk enjoying beautiful scenery, you must check out Harter Fell. This peak rests near Eskdale in the southern section of the Lake District National Park, at 1,800 feet tall.

The walk up to Harter Fell’s summit is three miles and is fairly moderate. The trail begins in the nearby Forest Enterprise car park in Birks Bridge. From here, cross the close-by bridge towards The Birks.

Venture past The Birks building and continue along the trail, which takes you by Forest Road. Follow the road uphill before joining an old bridleway between Eskdale and the Duddon Valley.

Keep wandering uphill and follow the trail’s many bends before reaching the ridge line. From here, you’ll need to scramble through a small plantation of trees until your reach a gate.

Turn right here and venture up the rocks along a fence. Take care here, as there are many rocky outcrops to traverse.

After this, you’ll find a grassy slope to venture up. Soon enough you’ll spot Harter Fell’s trio of unique rock tors! Once you reach the summit, be sure to sit back, relax and enjoy those views of Upper Eskdale.

The walk is a circular one, so after soaking up the vistas, make your way back down the way you came.

This moderate hike up Harter Fell is packed with show-stopping sights…
