Situated on the edge of Derwent Water is the popular Theatre by the Lake, which hosts many entertaining theatrical performances from comedy, opera and drama to more educational lectures, drawing in speakers from across the whole country.

The Theatre by the Lake is one of the world’s most magnificent theatres. It’s a busy, dynamic creative centre that hosts a variety of art forms and festivals, as well as a reputation for producing high-quality theatre plays.
There are two stages in the Theatre. The Main House is the venue’s largest area and boasts a contemporary, airy, and welcoming space. The Studio Theatre is a smaller stage for more intimate performances.
In addition to hosting visiting companies and touring performances, Theatre by the Lake puts on up to nine original productions of classic, current, and new plays throughout the year, culminating in a popular family Christmas spectacular.
