For 360-degree views across the Dales, climb up to the remains of Middleham Castle, a splendid medieval keep and once home of Richard III. Equally splendid is the outlook from Leyburn Shawl, a stunning limestone escarpment that was the escape route of Mary Queen of Scots as she fled from Bolton Castle - another medieval fortress not-to-miss!
Leyburn has an excellent reputation for trading, from its Friday open-air market, regular farmers' markets and livestock auctions, to international catalogue sales of collectables and fine antiques.
Forbidden Corner features a mysterious labyrinth of trails, tunnels and other surprises. Tummies will flip on roller coasters at Lightwater Valley. Travel by vintage train along the Wensleydale Railway. Visit the local ice-cream farm. And don't miss the Wensleydale Show at August Bank Holiday.
