Welcome to the Durham Dales in the North Pennines AONB and, in particular, Teesdale, naturally blessed with wild, open moorland and dense, wooded valleys.
Such splendid scenery encourages all kinds of outdoor pursuits, from cycling along the C2C Route and exhilarating cross-country hacks, to water sports and wonderful walks along numerous trails. Make your base a Middleton-in-Teesdale cottage and you're right on the Pennine Way. This charming market town is more like a big village, framed by the Pennine Fells and nestling beside the River Tees. Enjoy its delightfully old-fashioned and very relaxing atmosphere. Amenities on offer include a fantastic visitor centre, tearooms, pubs and a small selection of shops.
