Altarnun Holiday Cottages

Just show me Cottages in Altarnun

Looking for a relaxing break in idyllic surroundings? Then book one of our Altarnun holiday cottages scattered about the sheltered valley of Penpont Water on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

Altarnun village is tiny and home to an old church, known as the 'Cathedral on the Moors'. Mostly dating from the 15th Century but with some Norman features, note its lofty tower and beautifully carved benches. Look out for the well where, in times past, local lunatics were dunked into its waters in the belief they would be cured! Also nearby is the Old Rectory, residence of Francis Davey, the vicar in du Maurier's great literary piece, Jamaica Inn. (And you can visit this notorious smuggling inn high on Bodmin Moor for food, drink, ghosts, museum and more!)

See & do around Altarnun

For general supplies to stock your Altarnun holiday let, not to mention a range of attractions including a Norman castle, 18-hole golf and narrow-gauge steam railway, the town of Launceston is down the road.

Walk, cycle or ride the wild landscapes of Bodmin Moor - a mere stone's throw from your Altarnun holiday home. Drive north to the coast for sandcastles, surfing, cliff-top walks and seriously good seafood in a trail of picturesque fishing villages. Or head a little further afield from your holiday rental in Altarnun to the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Port Isaac, Padstow or the Camel Trail.

And if you fancy rubbing shoulders with the fun-loving locals, then book your holiday in Altarnun to coincide with the week-long carnival held the third week of every August.
