Enjoy a relaxing break in the beautiful Eden Valley, home to the charming market town of Appleby and our Appleby cottages.
Discover striking architecture and delightful nooks and crannies on the Town Trail. Boroughgate stands out, the impressive main street linking the Church of St. Lawrence with the Norman castle, restored by Lady Anne Clifford. She spent much time caring for neglected properties and also built the St. Anne's Hospital Almshouses - view her tomb in the churchyard. Also look out for 'The Primrose Stone' sculpted with St. Bees' sandstone, one of the ten Eden Benchmarks.
Browse craft shops and galleries, showcasing all kinds of local works. Enjoy the banter of the indoor market and find goodies for your Appleby cottage. Stroll along the riverside path or follow the Dowpitts Wood Nature Trail from the town centre.
The town is famous for the Appleby Horse Fair, held every June and established some 300 years ago, gathering gypsies and travellers from near and far to trade horses - the atmosphere is one of a kind! July, meanwhile, brings a more melodious mood at the Jazz Festival.
Book a trip on the Settle-Carlisle Railway. Visit the waterfall of Rutter Force. Explore the Moor House National Nature Reserve, with blanket bogs, limestone outcrops and rare alpine plants. For springtime bluebells, follow the tails of Dufton Ghyll Wood. Our Appleby cottages are also the gateway to the Cumbria Cycle Way, the Westmoreland Way, the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Path.
Lots to see and do when you book an Appleby cottage!
