Built into cliffs right beside the sea, this attractive town is rich in maritime history, reflected in its mix of pastel-painted fishermen's cottages and timbered merchants' residences. Stroll along the Esplanade and into Fowey's backwaters, full of inviting shops and eateries. Points of interest include the Town Hall with museum and aquarium, the Daphne du Maurier Literary Centre and St. Fimbarrus' Church.
Colourful pleasure boats jostle for attention at the Town Quay steps and are a great way to get a feel for this magical place. Cruise upriver and watch wildlife and also huge cargo ships being loaded with local china clay. Or be adventurous and try canoeing or river rafting.
