Enjoy peace and quiet in a canal-side cottage, far from crowds
and everyday mayhem. If you think canals are just for narrow-boat
enthusiasts, then think again. They attract all kinds of people
with all kinds of interests. Yes you can hire a boat for the day
or book a restaurant cruise, but there's so
much more.
A canal-side cottage holiday instantly
reduces stress. Walk along towpaths and view
things from a different perspective. Get close to nature and
wildlife. Explore hidden backwaters of busy cities. There's
even a long-distance National Trail, the Thames Path, linking the
Cotswolds with the capital.
Many canal paths are also open to cyclists, though there are
strict speed limits and a permit is sometimes required. Or cast
your line and catch tonight's supper to prepare in your
own canal-side accommodation!
There are usually lots of welcoming pubs and restaurants along
the banks - perfect for lazy afternoons and alfresco dining as you
watch life on the water slowly pass you by.
