Just show me Hawkshead Cottages
Picture clusters of whitewashed buildings, cobbled streets,
pretty courtyards and unusual architectural features. Hawkshead is
a delightful Lakeland village with oodles of charisma.
Choose from a selection of Hawkshead cottages and get to know
this idyllic region in the centre of the National Park. Start by
wandering around the car-free village centre dotted with cosy
cafes, character inns and welcoming restaurants. The shopping's
rather good too, especially for outdoor clothing, good quality
souvenirs and award-winning relishes.
Historic sites include the 15th Century St. Michael's
Church, promising far-reaching views over the surrounding
countryside; not forgetting the Old Grammar School where William
Wordsworth studied. Another famous writer associated with Hawkshead
is Beatrix Potter - browse her original water colours at the
Beatrix Potter Gallery, or step into the world of Jemima Puddleduck
and Tom Kitten at Hill Top found just down the road in Near Sawrey.
Quiet lanes, public rights of way, forest tracks and lakeside
paths riddle the surrounding countryside, guaranteeing lots of
fresh air and fun for everyone, whether walking, cycling or riding
is your preferred mode of transport. Expect breathtaking scenery,
with Grizedale Forest to the south (think guided walks, sculpture
trails, woodland trails galore), Lake Coniston to the west and Lake
Windermere to the east. Hawkshead also has its own lake, Esthwaite,
where tranquil waters hide rich aquatic flora attracting anglers in
search of trout, pike, roach etc.
So as you can see, there are lots of ways to relax when you book
a Hawkshead cottage!
