"..exceeded expectations."
Mr Kent, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, April 2012
Sykes rep on the phone was very polite and helpful, booking the property was very easy.
Mrs Cooke, Bolton, Greater Manchester, April 2012
Fancy exploring the scenic landscapes of the northern Lakes and
the rolling Pennines? Our Penrith cottages could be just what
you're looking for.
Once capital of Cumbria, this thriving market town offers an
excellent choice of attractions and amenities. First stop the local
tourist office-cum-museum for themed walking leaflets - try the
Millennium or Richard III Trails - and an insight into the life of
'the Monocled Mutineer', Percy Toplis. Discover elegant
sandstone buildings, quiet backwaters and specialist shops
including fudge and toffee, all kinds of books and a fine food
emporium. Browse local art, pottery workshops and call in at the
Lilliput Lane Visitor Centre. Explore the ruins of Penrith Castle.
Break for refreshments in a traditional watering hole, cafe or
restaurant; then burn off calories with a walk to the top of
Penrith Beacon. Theatre, cinema, live music - there's a variety
of evening entertainment too.
Spend a fun-filled day at Rheged, a huge, grass-covered building
in disguise as a Lakeland hill. 3D cinema, pottery painting, indoor
and outdoor play areas, as well as a collection of inviting shops,
it's fantastic for families. Or pay a visit to Winderwath
Gardens and enjoy a picnic by the pond.
Other nearby attractions include Brougham Castle, protected by
English Heritage and offering panoramic views from the top of the
keep. Also Mayburgh Henge and King Arthur's Round Table, two
examples providing strong evidence of the region's pre-historic
occupation. And, of course, with all that amazing countryside on
your Penrith cottage doorstep, it's always a good idea to pack
boots!
