Just show me Carlisle Cottages
Historic border town and capital of Cumbria, try one of our
Carlisle cottages for a holiday full of surprises!
When you think of Carlisle a few things instantly spring to
mind. Hadrian's Wall, of course, just a short drive away - a
legendary World Heritage Site built by the Romans, offering a
National Trail and Cycleway plus numerous impressive attractions.
Carlisle Castle, founded in 1092, looms over the city as a constant
reminder of Anglo-Scottish battles - discover its dark dungeons and
maze of labyrinths. Next, Henry VIII's imposing Citadel, once a
major entrance into the city. Carlisle Cathedral features a
magnificent 14th Century stained glass window, while the Tullie
House Museum & Art Gallery vividly brings Carlisle's
heritage and past to life.
If shopping's more your thing, there are lots of
pedestrianised areas, award-winning malls, colourful farmers'
markets, as well as a traditional, Victorian indoor market. From
designer couture to trendy high street names, gifts, toys and more,
return to your Carlisle cottage with bags galore!
Dining out is a globe-trotting experience, with a whole host of
restaurants and take-aways covering every palate and budget. Other
entertainment ranges from cinema and theatre to comedy nights,
ghostly tours and one-off extravaganzas. Look out, too, for
festivals and other events - the Summer Music Festival perhaps or
Guy Fawkes' celebrations. Add museums, nature reserves, not to
mention daytrips on the Settle-Carlisle Railway and everyone's
bound to be happy.
And with the Lake District and Scotland right on your doorstep,
expect some amazing scenery whichever way you head from your cosy
Carlisle cottage!
