Welcome to a shimmering expanse of water in Cumbria's glorious Eden Valley, the exact lake which inspired Wordsworth to write his famous poem, 'Daffodils'. It's a terrific place for a holiday and we've some lovely holiday cottages near to Lake Ullswater.
No stay in a cottage near Ullswater would be complete without a trip aboard an Ullswater Steamer. Totally dog-friendly, the elegant steamers glide across the waters allowing you to sit back and soak up the scenic sights. If you prefer to DIY, hire a rowing or motor boat, or learn how to sail or kayak at the sailing school.
Another reason to book a holiday rental near Lake Ullswater is for the wonderful walking, with stacks of footpaths and lanes to choose from whether walking is your passion or your pastime. Wainwright's 'Coast to Coast' passes close by, while superb day walks include Hallin Fell, Silver Cragg, Gowbarrow Fell, Barton Fell and the 'Boat Walk', combining fell and lakeside walking with a ferry ride back to the start.
What else? Sailing regattas, angling, riding, mountain biking and, for any adventure junkies out there, ridge scrambling, climbing and bush-craft.
Nearby attractions include Dalemain Historic House & Gardens, Hutton in the Forest, The Alpaca Centre and giant-screen cinema at Rheged. And when it's time to shop, eat and drink, explore attractive settlements around the lake like Pooley Bridge, Glenridding and Patterdale.
