Just Show Me Lynmouth Cottages
Where Exmoor meets the sea, the charming resort of Lynmouth and twin village Lynton were fondly named 'Little Switzerland' by Victorian visitors. And it's easy to see why, with spectacular, tree-clad cliffs tumbling down to dazzling, rocky bays.
For sweeping views across Exmoor and the Bristol Channel, travel from one to the other aboard the amazing, water-powered funicular railway, leaving Lynmouth down at the coast and climbing up to Lynton high above - you can even take your dog. Indeed, our pet friendly cottages in Lynmouth are popular as the beach has no seasonal restrictions whatsoever. You can also take 'Scamp' on the Lynton and Barnstaple narrow-gauge railway and tour the national park.
Lynmouth itself is a delight to explore, with its ancient harbour and huddle of fishermen's cottages. There's a good choice of places to eat and drink, plus a handful of shops. Enjoy a scenic boat trip along the coast or land mackerel for supper back at your Lynmouth holiday home. Take a riverside stroll to the waterfalls of Watersmeet and sample a scrumptious cream tea.
Find buzzards, rare mountain goats and unusual weathered formations in the extraordinary Valley of Rocks. Expect wonderful walks along the South West Coast Path, serious surfing in Lynmouth Bay and challenging off-road trails on the 'Exmoor Beast Challenge'. Delightfully lazier options include fishing (local permits available from tourist office), putting, bowling and watching cricket.
And if your Lynmouth cottage holiday falls in August, watch out for the flour bombs and buckets of water thrown in fun at the riotous raft race, all in aid of charity, of course!
