"A beautiful cottage with such a lovely garden."
It was a pleasure to stay there. There was a generous hamper waiting for us when we arrive, which we greatly appreciated. The walk into the centre of Thornhill was easy. There are two little supermarkets and cafés etc.,
Thank you to the Nithbank team for making our stay so comfortable.

"What a wonderful holiday cottage."
Everything about it was quality. From the furniture, the facilities, the decor and all the extras. The welcome pack was the best we’ve ever experienced and even included 2 brand new toys for our dog Finn! The location was picturesque and peaceful with scope to wander around the grounds. We really couldn’t fault it. So would absolutely recommend Nithbank Cottage to any potential future guests.

"The property was very well equipped, cosy and the bed was very comfortable and the shower in the bathroom was excellent."
The grounds were lovely to walk round and it was very peaceful so you could hear the birds singing in the trees. The only disappointment was the cottage could do with a handrail at the steps to assist the disabled.
Thank you James for the lovely feedback and noted regarding handrail - we will definitely get that added. Looking forward to welcoming you again. Wish you a lovely weekend

The cottage is very pretty and the surroundings make it absolutely great. The walks down to the river and woodland are an excellent stroll. Watching the birds ( and Squirrels! ) on the feeder was the icing on the cake. Altogether a lovely three night break. Thank you, Paul and Heather

We took our cocker spaniel Lily she really enjoyed the garden and watching all the birds through the conservatory windows. We will be returning if we can booked in again. The only suggestion I can make is to have larger towels in the bathroom.
Thank you Sharon for the lovely feedback. Looking forward to welcoming you both and Lily and noted regarding larger towels

"Lovely comfy cozy cottage in a beautiful setting."
Lots of extra touches that made the stay special. The welcome pack was very generous and our dog loved the beds, toys and treats left for him. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the owners were very quick to respond to our queries.
The birdlife in the garden was amazing and the owners had set up a feeding station which was constantly busy. Sadly, we only saw grey squirrels, which is bad news for the reds.
The instructions we received were not to walk on the neighbour’s property, but the only neighbours were the owners and they were happy for us to walk anywhere on their mini estate, which was lovely.
The only downside to the holiday was that the garden was not enclosed as advertised, and dogs could easily escape through the main gates onto the road.
Thank you Barbara for the lovely feedback and for staying with us.
Thanks for pointing us regarding the other main gate, we are happy to close that to fully enclose the garden for your dogs. Looking forward to welcoming you again

"Lovely property good location in its own grounds."
The only problem was it was very difficult to turn the car around as there’s very little space on the driveway and you WILL have to turn as it’s not legal to reverse on to a main road.
But it’s a lovely location to use as a base for exploring.
Thanks Remo for the helpful feedback and for staying at the cottage - it was great to host you and we will look into the driveway suggestion (thank you). Next time, please also feel free to bring the car inside and park near the main house as reversing will be much easier and we are absolutely fine with this. Looking forward to welcoming you again :) Regards - Nithbank Team

"MARVELLOUS
Went with my wife and wee Border Terrier, Baxter in September 2025."
Place is fantastic, beautiful cottage and well equipped. A Cockerell and his family paid us a visit every day. It's quiet and secluded, would be even better in the summer ☀️, however, we were fortunate with the weather. 20 minutes walk to Thornhill village which was one Baxter and I did every day for a quick pint in the Farmers Arms. The well stocked hamper left for our arrival was excellent, great produce. This is our 4th Sykes cottage trip, so far Nithbank Cottage comes tops. The other 3 were wonderful, so gives you an idea how far these owners have set the bar. It was exactly the peace and quiet we were looking for. Well done.

"The cottage and surrounding gardens, and woodland walks were beautiful."
There were plenty of birds and other wildlife visitors to the garden. The owners kindly provided a bird book and binoculars to help identify the birds. The welcome pack was one of the very best we have ever received. They had thought of everything, bread, milk, scones, jam, eggs, orange juice, and even asked if you had a white/red wine preference. They also provided dog beds, toys, bowls and treats.

"An absolute gem of a retreat for two people with the immpeccable cottage set in a stunning woodland setting with short walks straight from the cottage and down to the river."
The welcome from the owner was lovely and we enjoyed the excellent communication. The welcome hamper was beautifully prepared and personalised for us which was a great touch. The closeness to walking in the Southern Uplands and Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens made it a great holiday where we didn't drive a lot. There is so much to do in this area (and we walked a lot in stunning scenery) if you can drag yourself away from watching the variety of birds and wildlife around the cottage! The art installations of Striding Arches by Andy Goldsworthy and Crawick Multiverse by Charles Jencks are within a short drive and we enjoyed exploring those on our break. A perfect escape.
Thanks Davy and Bernadette for the lovely review - it was great to have you both as our guests and we are looking forward to welcoming you again
