Sykes Holiday Cottages is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the world-renowned Born Free Foundation.
The international wildlife charity is inviting holidaymakers to stay at the Born Free Cottage, overlooking Loch Snizort on the breath-taking Isle of Skye, known for its rugged landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles.
The enchanting island provides total escapism; it is a place where you can soak up the natural history and uncover local wildlife including sea otters, golden eagles, dolphins, seals, red deer, porpoises and even orca and baskin.
The charity’s cottage belongs to Born Free co-founder Virginia McKenna OBE and is described as “a treasure beyond description.”
“Very many years ago, a great friend of ours bought a little cottage on the Isle of Skye, named Cnoc na Gaoithe,” explains Virginia. “My husband, Bill, and I were always invited to stay. When she died she left us the cottage in her will.
“The property has been beautifully refurbished and all with a view to die for, looking over the sea,” says Virginia. “Whatever the season, whatever the weather, the little Skye cottage is peaceful, welcoming and unpretentious. And not far away is the delightful small town of Portree, with its harbour, boats and view across the water,” she adds.
“There is something special about crossing a bridge to an island especially as, nestling beneath this bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh is the Lighthouse Island and the last home of famous author Gavin Maxwell.”
All rental income from the cottage will support the charity’s work to save wild animals and support sanctuaries across the country.
