The East Riding town of Beverley, on the North Yorks moors, is famed for horse racing and its ancient Minster. A picturesque town, with fine gothic and mediaeval buildings and some good specialist shopping, Beverley’s Minster is less famous than that of neighbouring York, but is nonetheless a fine example of magnificent mediaeval architecture, and an extraordinarily imposing building for a town of its small size. Cathedral-like, the massive twin Minster dominates the horizon for miles around. Beverley Racecourse is the town’s other main attraction, and many enthusiasts come here to enjoy a day at the famous races. Others still come for  various festivals of growing repute; the Folk Festival runs each June at a variety of venues around town, whilst the Beverley Literature Festival takes place every October.
