Our Favourite & Most Unusual


River Exe Café – Exmouth

Located on the River Exe, this floating cafe has the best views of the river and is only accessible via water taxi or boat. The cafe was built in 2011 and consists of two barges and a shed. Everything from food to the fuel for the generator is ferried to the cafe. Don’t let looks deceive you, this cafe can cater for 100 people and has outdoor heaters for those chilly evenings.

Best for Dogs


The Turf – Exminster

Located at the end of the historic Exeter Canal, this pub is only accessible via foot or ferry. This timber framed and slate hung building is located between the canal and the estuary and provides marvellous views of both. The Turf has an extensive beer garden and offers a “Cook Your Own BBQ” menu, where you can hire their professional Australian gas BBQs and purchase the ingredients, perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Best for Real Ale


The Drewe Arms – Exeter

Located within the Dartmoor National Park, this beautiful, 17th-century thatched roof inn is the perfect destination for any ‘real ale’ lover. With the previous landlady running the pub for 75 years before retiring at the age of 99, The Drewe Arms retains many of its historical features and serves its beers through three traditional serving hatches.

Best for Families


The Black Venus Inn – Exmoor

This 16th-century stone-built pub is a perfect resting place for families. The local area has a variety of historic walks, perfect for families or dog walkers (also a pet-friendly pub). After a day walking in the area, why not head here for a meal or to relax in it’s beer garden?
