In Victorian times Cromer was the resort on the north Norfolk coast; nowadays it is a bustling centre for cottage holidays in the summer and an increasingly important administrative centre for the region. Visitors will find all the typical English sea-side resort attractions, including the famous pier with its daily shows, wide stretches of sandy beach ideal for families and plenty of shops and services for the holidaymaker. It has long since been famed for its crab fishing industry and no visit would be complete without sampling the local delicacy. The town’s other big connection is with the lifeboat service, which continues to play an integral part in community life; visitors can learn about the vital work and colourful characters of this service at the town’s Henry Blogg Museum. The Norfolk Shire Horse Centre at West Runton, between Cromer and Sheringham, features mares with foals, farm animals, the history of heavy horses and provides sanctuary for a variety of rescued animals, and a offers a good day out for those with little ones.
