As you may have read last week, ten of Sykes Cottages staff embarked on a massive challenge last Friday morning, the Three Peaks Challenge! The Three Peaks Challenge means walking up and down the highest peaks of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales, against the clock, in just twenty four hours.

The walkers included Simon Taylor, Peter Weir, Clive Sykes, Michelle Lawton, Tom Lowes, Anthony Challinor-Cole, Richard Bond, Simon Pospisil and Adam Ratcliffe. The group aimed to raise £5000 for Claire House and Children Today by completing the walk. To help with the fundraising, last week saw staff at Sykes Cottages head office in Chester holding a bake sale and wearing their slippers to work.

The walkers left Sykes Cottages offices in Chester last Thursday morning to drive up to Ben Nevis, ready to start the challenge on Friday morning. They started the walk on Friday morning just after 8am, eager to start the challenge and full of energy, ready to face what lied ahead. The team managed to reach the summit of Ben Nevis in fantastic time and by the time they were back at the bus they were more than an hour ahead of schedule. Feeling pleased with the start that they had made, they set off on the six hour long journey to the Lake District for the second part of the walk.

Unfortunately, the good luck was not to continue! The journey from Scotland to Scafell Pike was long and slow with awful driving conditions. They were even caught up in a traffic accident, where two cars collided and one of them ended up in a ditch on its roof. Luckily, all involved were unhurt and the three peaks team continued on their way.

They reached Scafell Pike in fading light and began the walk. They reached the summit without too much trouble but on the way back down the mountain they ended up lost in thick fog and in the pitch black of the night. Fortunately, they managed to eventually get down off the mountain and on their way to Wales for the last part of the challenge but not without losing more than three hours of their already tight timescale.

In the end the team completed the three peaks challenge in twenty seven hours. The ten strong group have all come back with lots of funny stories and memories that will stay with them for many years to come. They are also already planning their next challenge so watch this space!

Well done to all of the Sykes Cottages team for such fantastic effort! If you would like to sponsor the Sykes Cottages team, please visit our fundraising page where donations are still pouring in.
