Situated in a fantastic location at the bottom of the 199 Steps, The Duke of York is the perfect place to quench your thirst or feed your appetite after a day of exploring Whitby’s most iconic attractions. The menu offers plenty of delicious homemade meals such as pies, lasagne and fish cakes, along with vegetarian friendly, child friendly and lighter options. Food is available to order daily between 12-9pm. The pub is a fascinating visit, steeped in history that dates back over 1000 years.

Best Views – The Pier Inn

In a prime location overlooking Whitby’s iconic harbour, The Pier Inn offers a superb selection of home-cooked food, cask ales and live entertainment. Those with a fondness for ale can also request a tour of the brewery, which lasts for approximately 90 minutes. There is a large sun terrace outside, where you can sit and enjoy a drink whilst taking in your stunning surroundings. Just a short distance from the North York Moors, it’s a great place to refuel and relax after a day’s exploration of the area’s luscious National Park.

Best for a Quiet Drink – The Golden Lion

This traditional, cosy and quaint pub is a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet beverage. Stepping through the doors is a bit like stepping back in time, with novelty tables and other quirky features. The pub is fairly small but very welcoming and is talked about fondly by locals and tourists alike. The Golden Lion is dog friendly, so a great choice to stop off for a drink with your four-legged friend.

Best Experience – The Moon & Sixpence

This stylish bar on the harbourside is a great place to enjoy food and drinks. There is a Brasserie that serves the freshest seafood ingredients, as well as small plates and hot from the grill options. There are some fantastic mid-week offers on food, including half price lobster every Thursday. There are child-friendly options available and you can pop in for a delicious breakfast too. There is a fantastic menu of mouth-watering cocktails to choose from, all of which are 2 for 1 between 4-6pm (excluding Saturday). The Moon & Sixpence is a great choice for food and drink no matter what time of day you wish to visit.

Best Traditional Pub – The Star Inn The Harbour

Owned by Michelin-star winning and Whitby native Andrew Pern, this fantastic establishment has a uniquely wonderful interior and offers phenomenal food. It’s definitely a dining experience with a wow factor. The menu showcases a catch of the day and other locally-sourced seafood, as well as fabulous North Yorkshire produce and for those with a sweet tooth; they have their own ice cream parlour. They offer a group menu, making it a great place to dine and socialise with family and friends on the harbourside.
