Our report paints a picture of the growing popularity of staycations in Scotland, reviewing everything from the trending holiday...
This weekend, we were thrilled to open up The Times Weekend Magazine to find that not one but TWO of our holiday cottages had been featured in James Ellis’ 50 Best Cottages in Britain article. James is an esteemed travel editor and writer and we are absolutely over the moon that two of our properties were included. The cottages in question, Cambridge Lodge and 1 Church House are both stunning properties that certainly stand out from the crowd; if you want to read the article you can do so here although please be aware that to read The Times online you need a subscription.
To celebrate this fantastic accolade, we thought we’d shine our Sykes Spotlight on these two unique holiday homes
This striking church conversion in Totland is the perfect place for a luxury family holiday with a difference. A former Methodist church, 1 Church House has retained lots of its original features including stained glass windows and high timber ceilings, as well as a huge resplendent window in the living area, making the room delightfully bright and airy. These charming features are seamlessly combined with modern, stylish décor and the real jewel in the crown is the master bedroom with its en-suite and gallery overlooking the downstairs sitting areas. The property is just a short walk from Totland beach and should you fancy some breath-taking scenery, the start of the Tennyson Trail is just a mile away. The trail follows a 15 mile route around the coastline of the island; we’d suggest taking a picnic with you and settling down on Headon Down, where you’ll find one of the best sunset views on the Isle of Wight.
Cambridge Lodge is a fascinating property which has been converted from a water tank that dates back to 1909. It took the owners ten years to transform the water tank into the luxury holiday home that it is today but it’s been well worth the wait! Set over ground and lower ground floors, Cambridge Lodge offers visitors a truly unique holiday experience with all the mod con features you could need including Smart TV with Netflix, WiFi and iPod dock. The property is perfect for groups of friends or families but children staying at Cambridge Lodge must be aged ten or older. From the garden, you’ll find panoramic views out to Chatsworth House and Riber Castle with fantastic walks straight from the doorstep including the Limestone Way and the High Peaks walking and cycling trails.
