Bowland Bridge Cottages
Welcome to the Winster Valley and the picturesque hamlet of Bowland
Bridge, a hidden corner of the Lake District National Park, yet
just ten minutes from
Kendal
and also from Lake Windermere. The valley was a favourite haunt of
Wordsworth and is famous for growing damsons - look out for
homemade jam, damson gin and roadside stalls in autumn.
Though tiny, the village offers a well-equipped general store
selling everything you might need during your Bowland Bridge
cottage holiday - bread, milk, local produce, newspapers etc.
It's also home to two terrific pubs, both renowned for serving
real ales, fine wines and delicious food.
Get out and about and explore this gloriously rural and tranquil
area - enjoy leisurely drives and cycles along quiet country lanes,
or don boots and head cross-country over the grassy fells. For
wonderful views of Lake Windermere, try the viewpoint over
Gunner's How.
