Birthplace of William Wordsworth, Cockermouth has a lovely
welcoming ambience and our Cockermouth cottages are perfectly
placed for exploring the relatively unspoilt Northern Lakeland.
Call in at the tourist office for a Town Trail leaflet - a good
starting point for exploring this delightful market town. On Main
Street, step inside Wordsworth House (National Trust) and see
childhood toys and more. Cockermouth has had its fair share of
famous sons - Wordsworth, Fletcher Christian (of 'Mutiny on the
Bounty' fame) and atomic theory pioneer John Dalton. Also in
the town centre is Jennings Brewery, offering tours and tastings,
plus lots of small, interesting shops, restaurants, cafés and
pubs.
Join the party! Cockermouth's eclectic festival line-up
includes wool, beer, rock and carnivals. There's also an
agricultural show, Georgian Fair, Christmas illuminations - even
lorry pulling contests! If your Cockermouth cottage stay falls
during the Midsummer Festival, join the one-off tour of
privately-owned Cockermouth Castle. Or head for
the Kirkgate Centre for art, theatre, film and music.
No trip to The Lakes would be complete without dipping into the
countryside and there's plenty right on the doorstep of your
Cockermouth cottage. Use pedal power along the long-distance
Reivers Cycle Route. Test your stamina climbing
Skiddaw. Go Ape at Whinlatter Forest Park.
Daytrips from your Cockermouth cottage
