  • "This was our third visit to Sea Roke and it’s a little like putting on your favourite pair of slippers."

The bungalow is extremely comfortable, it’s warm, has plenty of hot water, has great open views to the back of the property (when you live in a city the view is priceless so please don’t block it) and is feature rich with for example good quality televisions, Sky and an EV charger. We noticed the new carpets and beds and that there is now a much improved level access through the patio doors to the garden. Well done to the owners for improving the property and we’ll definitely visit again.

  • "Good points."

Beds very comfortable. Bathroom great. Wi-Fi excellent. Great location. Very quiet location. 10 mins to walk to town or train station. Bad points. The carpets were very grubby & dirty. The dining facilities were inadequate. We also didn’t appreciate having to set up the dining table as soon as we arrived. Only two chairs! Stupid how every time you wanted to go from the kitchen to the garden you had to walk down the hallway either through the front room or out the front door! The kitchen has a door to the outside to access the garden but for some reason was closed permanently to guests, why? Settees very uncomfortable. Outside bin full of rotting food rubbish & it stunk terribly. Not even a nice table lamp in the front room for the evenings. Patio door so old and awkward to open & close. Very dangerous to go from the front room to the garden as well as there was a large gap to cross. Ok if you are in your teens not so good if you’re getting on a bit. Needs something safer. The thing that irritated us the most was the public footpath at the top of the garden where 100 people walked their dogs back & forth every day and night and loved a good nose. Absolutely no privacy at all. Owners need to put a fence up like every other property has already. Would not stay at this property again.

We appreciate your positive feedback. The drop-leaf table is a versatile piece of furniture, featuring two leaves that can be utilized individually for smaller gatherings or combined for larger groups. To configure the table with both leaves, you only need to move the nearest sofa forward by 30cm. Our property is well-suited for up to 5 guests, ensuring a comfortable stay. In addition to the dining table, our property is thoughtfully furnished with a total of 5 chairs, two stools, and a dressing table footstool aswell as 2 sofas. To create a welcoming atmosphere, there are six table lamps thoughtfully placed throughout the premises. It's worth noting that our bins are emptied on a fortnightly basis for your convenience. Sea Roke boasts an exceptional location, offering direct access to Filey Nature Reserve and the Cleveland Way trail from the rear of the property. The unobstructed views across the open countryside to the sea contribute to the desirability of properties in this stretch of Filey, resulting in much higher residential sale values and very rare opportunities for the purchasing on the open market along this prime stretch. This remarkable location is a magnet for our repeat guests, drawn by the luxury it offers. Here, you can often catch sight of migrant warblers making their initial landfall on the elongated rocky formation extending into the sea known as Filey Brigg, recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. During the winter months, you can observe Purple Sandpipers foraging among the rocks. Autumn presents an excellent chance to witness Grey Seals, while Common Seals, despite their name, are less frequently seen. Frequent visits from Harbour Porpoises enhance the experience, and late summer provides prime opportunities for spotting Minke Whales. Sei Whales have also made appearances in the area. Additionally, there's the occasional sighting of Bottle-nosed Dolphins passing by the Brigg. For those with an interest in seals, Gristhorpe Cliff stands out as the ideal location to observe them as they rest on the rocks. Property Owner

The one thing I have to say about the property is the seating arrangement for the dining table there isn’t enough for 5 people we had to use the bedroom dressing table for a chair because the stools in the kitchen are too high

Thank you for your positive feedback. The drop-leaf table comes with two leaves that can be used separately for smaller gatherings or together for larger groups as pictured. The property comfortably accommodates up to 5 people. The area is so quiet, and looking out of the back windows onto the garden had such a calming effect, just what you need while on holiday. Also the bungalow is bright, and there was a welcome pack there too. We would certainly visit again and would recommend to friends. It was good that we could do several walks from the bungalow too, without having to use the car, and there is a good bus service to Scarborough and Bridlington etc. too. • "Went away for a quiet week by the coast and unfortunately when in the cottage and the boiler was on you heard a persistent noise coming from the boiler or boiler pump."

The noise was very loud and you heard it above the television even with it turned up. Location was good, parking good in summer when boiler not required might be a different outcome but won’t be booking this cottage again.

Thanks for the feedback. The boiler is relatively new and has to undergo the legal requirement of an annual landlord gas safety check and also an annual service. The boiler and the system was fully serviced by a registered gas safe engineer (reg no224120) on the 16th January 2023 and fully passed with no observations, a copy of the certificate (45c1454202) is and was on display in the property and also uploaded to the Sykes owner portal. Whilst no concern or issue was raised to Sykes during any part of the stay it may be reassuring and helpful to know the following as extracted from google for future stays in any accommodation which has a combi boiler. “Extract from ask Google: People ask. Do combi boilers always make a noise? In short, yes. Your boiler’s circulating pump is what sends hot water around your house and it is fairly typical for you to hear some humming when using the heating or running a shower etc.” Property Owner

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
